Before choosing to buy this flat iron, I had a Conair Ceramic Tools CT2555 1" flat iron. I hated it! The plates never fully touched, so it was incredibly difficult to straighten my hair. When it finally died, I spent a fair bit of time browsing flat irons to find a replacement I would be happy with. I considered everything from $15 ones all the way to the $100 Chi. The Chi always gets rave reviews, so I was definitely tempted, but was hesitant to drop $100 on a flat iron if there was something just as good out there for less. I saw this 1" Andis flat iron on Amazon and all of the great reviews it received. I talked to a few of my friends and found many of them had the Andis and said they thought it was just as good as the Chi. I tried several of my friends out, including the Chi, to see how they all preformed. The Andis seemed to work pretty well, so I decided to buy it and give it a try. I figured if it ended up being junk, at least I was only out $15.
Well, it ended up being $15 well spent! Blew my old Conair out of the water! It heats up really fast and the plates touch together perfectly. I typically plug it in and then brush my teeth. By the time I am done brushing my teeth it is ready to go. My old Conair would take up to 10 minutes to get fully heated up. The reason I only gave this flat iron 4 stars instead of 5 is because, as other reviewers have pointed out, the gold paint on the plates does rub off. I haven't seen any in my hair like other reviewers have seen, but if you look at the plates you can see the gold has been wearing off over the 6 months I have been using it.
So is this flat iron as good as the Chi? Well, I would personally say, "not quite". The Chi still preforms better if you ask me. Does the Chi preform $85 better? To that, I would say, "no". For $15 I would totally buy this flat iron again, and will once it finally gives out.
