Customer Reviews of Andis RC-2 Ionic 1875W Ceramic Hair Dryer with Folding Handle and Retractable CordCustomer Review: Great "Small" Dryer Summary: 5 Stars
Today, I decided to start write reviews for Items I've bought and used, because I want to thank the people that have helped me made the right buying decisions and would like to give back by writting reviews which I hope would benefit the next person.
I got the this blow drywer for my wife. I've read some reviews saying how loud or not powerful or easily broken this is...They are only partly true...so here is my view.
Loudness, Power, Weight: Before I got this unit, I bought one from Save-On with the exact same spec but a different brand. I returned it because my wife said it was too loud, heavy and does not dry her hair. So I got this one for her to try(Praise to Amazon return policy), and my wife loves it. It was alot quiter and dries her hair in half the time, and lighter.
So here is what I think, you need to know that this is a 'small' dryer, and it will be louder and less powerful then a full sized dryer, but it is very useable for its "small" size. It fits our small bathroom perfectly and create a neat organized drawer with the retractable cord.
Someone said its does not last long as the ones that cost $100+, well, if it did break, I'll just grab another one for $20. And I will conider the a large full sized dryer when I get a larger restroom.
There is definetely room for improvement, but consider its price, I think this is excellent unit. However I do wish for a slimmer/lighter aluminum frame blower with ultra quite and powerful motor, and a smooth retractable frame mechanism, using variable heat/speed adjustment.
Customer Review: Does the job, for it's size...[updated] Summary: 5 Stars
Taking into account that this is a travel hair dryer, I have no complaints. It's been used for 5 to 10 minutes every other day for the past couple months and so far not a problem at all. There is only one tiny design complaint I have, and that is I figured the retractable cord would be completely hidden when fully retracted but theres a stopper which allows a good 10 inches of chord to remain...I wouldve preferred it to retract completely to the plug, but fine. I expected something different and this is what I got, so four and a half stars. Otherwise, so far a great product for the unbeatable price. For its size it dries fairly quickly, and does indeed fold up into a nice little package (however you'll end up winding the rest of the chord around it anyway). And the folding handle makes a fair amount of cracking noise when you fold it...not the smoothest mechanism, but fine. Once again, not perfect, but for size it's as good as it gets.
UPDATE: It's now been a good 12 months or so, and the usage has gone up to 5-10 minutes almost every day. It's fallen off the counter 3 to 4 times, and still works like a charm. The other day (now about 6 months ago) however, the button to retract the cord flew off (with spring) while the cord was furiously being pulled out. I tried to reattach but it lost its retracting mechanism. Fine, now it's a regular drier. Although I do have to admit it's definitely very powerful for its size, quite amazing actually. Still works like a charm.
Customer Review: Great...when it runs Summary: 2 Stars
I have to admit, I really wanted this to be a good review. Now on my second Andis RC-2, there's no way that's possible without a serious caveat factored in.
My first unit was purchased in April, before traveling to China for two weeks. It overheated the first day (in spite of the proper converter and adapter), so it didn't get used again until returning to the states. For seven months, it ran great---so great that I took it out of the carry on and began using it in place of my usual blow dryer. Then, POOF! One day, it just quit. The motor hums, but that's all.
In December, I decided to buy another one for my carry on---same make and model, figuring the first one died early because of the China experience. Imagine my surprise when the new one worked exactly five times...then quit. Same problem. The motor makes a quiet humming sound, but that's it.
Maybe it's unrealistic, but I believe a blow dryer should work for more than a few months, especially if the first four months' worth of use are limited to time on the road. It's a nice little dryer when it works, but my experience has been that "when it works" can be iffy at best.
Sorry to have such a negative experience to share. Now...back to looking for a new dryer.....
Customer Review: Some convenient features, average peformance Summary: 3 Stars
I chose this model hair dryer because it was one of just a couple of models with a retractable cord AND a hook for hanging. I've had it for just over 1 month. The other models that retract and have a hook were designed for the hotel industry and not available to the general public other than on ebay or in lots of 12! It seems hair dryer manufacturers must presume if yout want a cord that retracts, you intend to store the hair dryer in a drawer. In my case, I have a hook inside the vanity cabinet with an electrical outlet in the cabinet. I want to remove excess cord when not in use. Also, I did not need a folding handle and I am afraid that feature may weaken its integrity, but I haven't had any problems so far.
The airflow is moderate but not great and the settings are limited to basically high and medium with a cool shot. I do not notice any better performance due to the ceramic feature and I have noticed less static and frizz with other ceramic models. The noise is average, but could be quieter. I hate that the back does not remove for cleaning the screen and expect this will also shorten the hairdryer's life.
All in all it drys hair and stores conveniently and was not very expensive, but its not the perfect dryer by any means.
Customer Review: Build muscle while you dry your hair Summary: 3 Stars
Was searching for something to replace my BaByliss mini (I've had two and they both ended up making very scary sounds - also, I believe they've been recalled due to exploding parts and reports of lacerations). Needless to say, even though they both continued to function, I was terrified the little things were going to lash out at me.
So...
I bought this thinking it would be compact and light-weight because of the retractable cord and folding handle (which are great and haven't had any trouble thus far, though it's only been a week).
When I took it out of the box I was disappointed in the size and weight. It made my stand-in, normal-size dryer look small by comparison.
Consider wearing earplugs to protect your hearing 'cuz this sucker is LOUD. However, it dries almost instantly and I have thick hair. Even the cool shot dries well on its own.
I'm having a hard time deciding on number of stars to give this since I don't like the large size and the earsplitting noise, but then again, it's a great dryer and my hair feels nice afterwards. But I do miss my BaByliss! I'm waiting to find another similar to it, but for now this is too much of a hassle to return and it's kinda growing on me.
