Customer Review: Good Anti-Itch, but Menthol May Irritate Some

Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing products are great, as is most of the Aveeno line, but for some the 'cooling' menthol in this one actually makes their skin feel warmer and somewhat uncomfortable for a time.
My daughter has Fifth's Disease (similar to measles, but common and not life-threatening) which is caused by a virus that is very common in daycare and elementary school settings. The virus can cause a low grade fever, sore throat, etc..., but the tell-tale sign of 5ths is super-red cheeks. They look like they've been slapped! Red, itchy rash is usually soon to follow and it may last for weeks. By the time the skin stuff arrives, they are no longer contagious, which is good as when you see it you start to itch too!
I bought this product to soothe her skin after using the Aveeno oatmeal (Soothing) bath. While she likes the bath, she's not crazy about this product. The menthol makes her skin feel warm instead of cool, which is something that she never complains about with menthol based rubs when I put them on her chest when she has a cold - to clear her nasal passages. She does agree that this product does help with reducing the itch, but I'm not sure if it's the active ingredient: dimethicone 2.5%, or the other assorted moisturizers?
A relatively thin moisturizer, it says on the container not to apply more than 3 to 4 times a day. I wonder what would happen if you did? It also warns not to get it into your eyes, and if swallowed...to contact Poison Control immediately.
Maybe some aloe vera gel is safer?
