Customer Reviews of CHI Turbo Microchip Ceramic Hairstyling Iron 1"

Customer Review: Great Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't really have difficult hair to deal with. My hair is soft and pretty smooth (it was perfectly straight until I was maybe 12 and then it started getting curly), and will usually stay very healthy for at least a year without getting cut. My big problem with my hair is it will hold a ton of moisture, so I can blow dry it and it feels dry but I know there is still moisture in it and it may start to get wavy... This iron solves that issue. Some people complain about the 2 inch not being maneuverable, but I didn't really see that as an issue. My hair is probably slightly thinner than normal thickness but not 'thin' by any means, but it's kind of long so the extra thick iron kind of helps. The only thing about it (which isn't the iron's fault) is because it's big sometimes my hand kind of hurts by the end of ironing it from holding it for so long, but that's not really a problem with the iron and I'm also building a tolerance to it so my hand is getting less and less sore every time I use it. My boyfriend's sister has one of the one inch chi irons without temp control (please note her hair is much less cooperative than mine, so It's really good for lots of different types of hair). I tried hers once and LOVED it. In 2 mins all the excess moisture I couldn't get out with blow drying (my hair felt like It had fully dried but I knew better, that's why I asked her to borrow her iron) came up in clouds in under 5 mins, and my hair was as god intended: looking like a Pantene commercial. Within 2 days of stealing her iron to straighten my hair I went onto amazon and found this little beauty. I ordered it like a week before christmas and it arrived in 3 days - probably the fastest shipped item I've ever received from anyone on this site. I didn't want to get an iron without temp control because not everybody's hair needs that much heat to come out perfect, and why stress your hair any more than you need to? I usually set mine between the medium and the hi setting and it comes out great. I don't think I would get an iron without that type of flexibility. Also the red felt really does help keep the outside of the iron from getting hot.
Keep in mind you always want to take good care of the iron. Don't leave it in the bathroom when you shower, it's not meant to be in a moist environment - it can damage the felt and the inner workings of the iron. I keep my iron in my bedroom and unplug it when not in use. I usually do a quick blow dry of my whole head just to get almost all the moisture out (don't even use a brush), then iron it in 3-4 (starting underneath and working my way to the top of my hair) sections and I'm done with the whole ordeal in about 20 mins. For this price, it's a steal.

Customer Review: How can this be possible?!
Summary: 5 Stars

My hair is an absolute mess when It hasn't been ironed. An absolute, curly, frizzy, tangly, mess. I have used many irons in the past - including the original Chi (which I love(d)) but NOTHING is comparable to this product.

I have gone through so many flat ironed. From steel plated ones, to cheap ceramic ones (that worked, but not like this), to the original Chi. The original Chi was the only flat iron that I've ever used that has gotten my hair straight. I have hair just past my shoulders so the ends are the first to flip when humidity hits. And they never actually get 'straight' with other irons (minus the original Chi).

I bought my Chi Turbo from Ulta at a price of $169.95 plus tax. I got it home, showered, and plugged it in.

What I like:

~It heats up in less then fifteen seconds.
~The variable heat control even though I always have it on high.
~The cute little LED light that flickers when I know my iron is good to go.
~The feel of this product in my hand.
~The felt on ends.
~And the heavy duty plug in with surge protection.

What I don't like:

~What is there not to like about this product?!

The original Chi is great if you have straight hair that needs to be straighter or slightly curly hair that you want board straight. But the Turbo is the one you want if your hair is an absolute labryinth like mine after it dries from a recent shower.

I noticed it heats up faster than the original Chi, it irons quicker than the original Chi, and darn it..It just looks cooler.

What used to take me thirty minutes with the original Chi now takes me fifteen minutes.

I put my hair up into about five different layers. The first layer being the bottom. After I finish a layer I tie it back with a hair tie and get another section ready. When this one section is straight I add it to the other section of straight hair and so on and so forth.

This product is my prized possession. My hair comes out as straight as imaginably possible. It's sleek, It's shiny. I can run my fingers through it. It doesn't instantly go back to my natural curl when I hit humidity. It really only goes back to normal when your hair gets wet.

Please, please, please...If you have crazy hair and need it managable and straight buy this product. It is worth every single penny.

Kodee.

my couusins had this product but instead of 2" they only had 1" i loved it when they tried it on myself and i wanted to get one for christmas. christmas came no chi straightener and a lot of money and my brother gave me a amazon gift cift card. i loked for weeks for something to spend but not much was good. then a week after i found this straightener on sale and i begged if i could buy it since i have a hot tool and sucks badly because they heated slowly and it takes a long time to straighten my hair. after trying my cousins' iron i decided to buy it. well i'll give u some tips before u think about buying this...#1 if u have thin hair go for a 1" chi straightner(works great with my cousins who has thin hair), #2 if u have really thick and curly and wavy hair u should buy a 2" yurself, #3 as i read the other reviews for safety conditions i bought it as fast as possible because i wanted to buy this before the sale is over so u should read the customers reviews and check for safety conditions(some said that the iron won't heat up after a week or so but my cousins' iron still work perfectly),#4 if u have really thick hair u should start from under yur hair until it's yur whole hair(works with me :)!) #5 don't leave it out when u take a shower since it's so expensive and customers complains about the repair price. b-t-w i have really thick, and wavy hair and it's always frizzy even in the morning when i took a shower the night before so now i pull it up into a low pony and it looks so straight when i took the rubber off but i rather have straighter hair with this chi. so follow my tips if u r buying this with curly/thick/wavy/frizzy hair this chi will make a great impression to yur hair and it lays straight until u wash yur hair. so buy this and join in the world of beauty!!!

Customer Review: Not for my hair type
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought the Chi turbo flat iron from a local salon after reading all the positive reviews here. Brand new and apparently well-made, it heated up almost instantly, but the benefits ended there. When I tried it on my thick, bushy, dry, coarse, frizzy, wavy, highlighted and miserably uncooperative hair, not only did it not straighten it but left it with large, S-shaped kinks in some spots.

After I blowdryed my hair I applied the Chi silk infusion, which by the way I do like, and I had also used a deep conditioning treatment after shampooing. When ironing I divided my hair into small sections (a maddening process in itself - adding another 20 minutes onto the eternity it already takes to dry my hair) and slid the iron through each section to a quick count of 3 seconds as instructed by my hairstylist. So I wasn't just clamping it on and letting it sit on a section of hair until it burned.

This was a very precise, very well-informed styling effort I was making, and still the results were profoundly disappointing. I tried it a few times, making sure to blowdry as thoroughly as possible to ensure any damp hair wouldn't negatively affect the process (this in itself is a time consuming, tedious chore for me). Always the same result - dry wispy flyaways on the surface of the hair and a dried up "burned out" look in some sections.

If you have hair like mine you might want to rethink plunking down a big chunk of change on this product. I am selling mine to my sister, who loves the iron and has hair sort of similar to mine but not as prone to frizzing and with no natural wave. She uses it every day with the result of hair that does indeed look flat - but it also looks very dry, lifeless and overprocessed.

Customer Review: Good product as long as it doesn't break!!
Summary: 2 Stars

This is the 5th CHI turbo we have purchased in the last 4 years. According to my daughter (who is the user of the CHI) it works great, doesn't damage her hair, and heats up immediately. She uses it every day and seems happy with it. As I said, my daughter loves it, but then she isn't the one paying for it.

I have several problems with this product. As I mentioned earlier, this is the FIFTH CHI I've purchased. They seems to last about a year (11 months on average for me), and if you bought the thing on-line, well you can forget about any warranty support. I called the dealer who sold me the CHI and they told me I had to contact the manufacturer for warranty work. I've called Farouk (the manufacturer) and they have repeatedly refused to honor the warranty for an on-line purchase. Finally, after threatening them with complaints to the State Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau, and a phone call from my lawyer they sent me a replacement....and a letter stating that there was NO warranty for this replacement.

So now 11 months later, the thing is broken again and the manufacturer (true to their word) is not going to honor any warranty.

I'll NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE!

If you like products that cost 4 times what other similar products cost, that break after less than a year of use, that have non-existent warranties, and are supported by Customer Service personnel who are rude and condescending then I think you're going to love this product!
