Customer Reviews of Caruso C97953 SalonPro 30 Molecular Steam Hairsetter with 30 Rollers

Customer Review: Very Disappointed - Is It Working or Not?
Summary: 1 Stars

From all the positive reviews, I thought Caruso was going to work for me. I still use my Clarol heated steam rollers (without the steam) and thought Caruso might do less damage to my straight, fine hair. All I can say is that it did completely nothing...except made my hair straighter! There were soft curls as I unwound the rollers, spritzed on extra hold hair spray, but after "finger separating" them, they fell flat. My hair felt completely dry, too, so I know it wasn't too much moisture.

I've wondered if the unit is working correctly as I've never seen one in action before. The steam arising was thinner than a thin stream of cigarette smoke (as in when you see one laying in an ashtray) It was so itty bitty it was apparent only when getting down to eye level with the unit. The foam did not "plump" as I read in one review. Nor did it get "moist" when I tried leaving one roller on the unit longer than 5-15 seconds to see what would happen. The rollers still felt dry. I blow dried before taking the rollers out and had kept the rollers in a good 20 minutes or more. That's where the instruction booklet was seriously lacking. It did not describe how the unit should work, the curlers should feel, etc. I asked at my local Sally's but no one there (although they sell these units) knew how it should operate. They recommended I try a different setting lotion. (I blow dried my hair before I started AND before taking the curlers out.)

I'll give it another try and if it works as well as advertised, will revise my review. If not, it's going back to the store. My Clarol rollers are old fashioned (about 20 years old) and the curls only last a day, but it at least does something.

If anyone could enlighten me as to how the unit is supposed to work when operating correctly, it would be appreciated greatly. Perhaps I have a dud and just didn't know it.

Customer Review: Average steam roller set
Summary: 3 Stars

Like some other reviewers, I really miss the original Caruso units that required salt. I guess I wasn't the only one who was nearly electrocuted on the metal prong several times. That didn't stop me from using it until it croaked though. The original set truly made curls that would last for days. This new set is somewhat disappointing. It's better than the Revlon steam rollers, but I'm still not completely satisfied with the product. My curls only last for a day. Since I have long hair and only wash my hair every few days, I need more lasting curls. Some people have complained that the curlers start to deteriorate. I believe that is caused from using the curlers after applying gel or hairspray or other hair products. These curlers should be used only on freshly washed hair. The only other complaint I have is that it the size of the curler is embossed in hard to read print and is on the opposite side of the curler than it should be. Since the curlers will logically be placed with with the marked size down, it is hard to tell which size is which. I usually group them in sizes, so I don't have to think about it. The jumbo and large sizes look the same from the bottom and so do the small and extra small. Overall, the curlers work as well as regular hot rollers, but they are much less damaging. They do take more time to use though, since it is necessary to heat one roller at a time. I probably would have given them 5 stars if I hadn't used the original Carusal rollers.

Customer Review: My favorite hair setter
Summary: 5 Stars

I own about eight different sets of hot rollers. This is easily my favorite one. If you style your hair often, these rollers are great because the steam heat does not damage your hair the way dry heat can. Another plus is that the steamer heats up almost immediately. Some of my hot roller sets take almost half an hour to get to the right temperature.

My hair is very thick and straight and needs extra persuasion to hold a style. These rollers work amazingly. The trick is that your hair must be completely dry before you start rolling up your hair. Do not use product before you roll. Let the rollers cool and dry out completely before unrolling. Only after you take your hair out of the rollers and style should you use product to hold the style.

Another plus is that this set is light and quite portable, therefore excellent for travel.

I can plug the steamer in and have my hair all rolled up in about 10 minutes. Add in another 15-20 minutes to let the rollers cool and set your hair, another 10 to style, and you can have a pretty fancy updo in under an hour.

I also appreciate how easy it is to buy additional rollers. That is probably my one complaint about this kit--that there aren't quite enough rollers in any size to do your whole head if you have a lot of hair. But it's definitely worth it to buy the extra rollers, because this is simply the best hair setter out there.

Customer Review: Hair roller sizes not as shown or advertised
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the 3rd Caruso unit that I've purchased in the past 15 years. I have had no problem with operation (my old steamer still works, the rollers just wore out). Unfortunately, my problem is with the roller sizes. They are not as advertised, or even as shown on the box. The advertisement is for 30 rollers: 6 petite, 6 small, 6 medium (they used to be the large rollers), 6 large and 6 jumbo. Instead of 6 large and 6 jumbo, it came with 12 HUMONGOUS "Jumbo/Large" rollers, which I have absolutely no use for. There are no 'large' rollers in the set, only Jumbo size. In the past, it used to come with 6 petite, 6 small, 6 small-plus, 6 large (now called Medium), and 6 jumbo. That was fine. I didn't use any Jumbos but there were enough of the other sizes to work. Now I have to try and order rollers that replace the "small-plus" to make up for the inordinate amount of jumbo rollers that they included (12!). It sounds like they subcontracted out the rollers and they have no idea about the correct sizes. I'd return the whole mess, but a replacement would just be the same. Just be prepared to order extra smaller rollers if you don't have long hair and have no use for Jumbos. Is that a marketing ploy to get you to buy more rollers? This will be the last time I order one of these. (PS. Does anyone want my 18 never-been-used JUMBO rollers?)

Customer Review: First set of hair rollers!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm sold! I love these things! I've never used hair rollers before, but I was looking for a new way to style my hair. I've considered hot rollers for several months, but was always nervous that I wouldn't be able to use them correctly. I searched on Amazon for several months for the appropraite rollers for my skill level and hair type. I came across these Caruso rollers and read several of the reviews. The idea that these are steam rollers was very appealing to me, as I've done enough damage to my hair with constant coloring and highlighting through the years.

I tried these rollers out at night (just to make sure I could use them correctly - and hopefully reverse any big mistakes I would make before going out for the day the next morning)...They were actually very easy to put in (and that's something for a first time hair roller girl)! My hair turned out beautifully and I was super excited about the results!

The next morning, I woke up and my hair looked even better! I barely had to do anything to my hair for the day, and the body and curls stayed all day.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I could have spent much more on another set and would have completely given up on the idea of hot rollers. Wonderful product! Recommend completely! 5 stars!
