I have yet to have this problem of the foam "wearing out" on my rollers. I don't curl my hair everyday, but I do it rather often. Feeling the material, I can't imagine it wearing out within the next few years (I got my curlers over a year ago). I have product-free hair, but I don't think people are using such corrosive products on their hair as to eat through the foam of the curlers. I never use a blowdryer, but I do usually let the curlers sit in open air for a while before I pack them away, just to evaporate any moisture that may be left in them.
I have very long (a couple feet, at least), very fine hair. I was never able to have curls before this, and do these ever do the trick! I decided to buy the steamer and sample set of curlers when I thought about curled hair for my senior picture. I first asked my mother, a deciple of the curling iron, for her recommendation. She has short, fine, permed hair. The curling iron that works for her... well... I'll just say I had to get used to some untimely bangs.
I like the petite rollers the best, which is why I bought more of them. They make lovely ringlets that make my look much more formal, and I can also make awesome spiral curls with them, which give me a softer look than my normal stark, straight hair.
Some parts of my hair (bangs area) are very short, but I have no problems getting curls in there, as well. My mother has also tried all sizes of my curlers on her hair and may just come and steal them from me some day. Her hair is only an inch to a couple of inches long (on different places around her head), and the curlers work fine for her, as well. I don't know what exactly the problem is for extremely short-haired people, but I can't imagine it being physically possible to curl hair much shorter than my mother's.
