I had the original caruso molecular steam hairsetter, it was bright pink and you had to add salt. It was great, my curls, which curled well at the time, would last for days! I swear I used them until foam on the curlers was absolutely dead.
Fairly recently, after japanese straightening my hair, I found I still occasionally want some curl. I bought the Vidal Sassoon molecular hairsetter thinking that is would be better than Caruso. The steam unit is almost the same, though I think the caruso steam comes out a tiny bit stronger, imho.
However, and here is the point of this review, the caruso rollers are much better!! The Vidal Sassoon rollers feel like better quality, they are softer and the foam is more dense, but the thickness of the foam is the same as the plastic ends of the roller. See on the carusos, how it has a lip on both ends, because the plastic ends jut out? That keeps the rollers from slipping out of your hair. In addition, I prefer the slightly thinner foam, seems to work better.
I accidentally left my Vidal Sassoon unit in a hotel room while traveling, I reordered from amazon but this time, I went back to the original and ordered the new (for me!) Caruso unit (in red)!
It comes with an assortment of roller sizes, but only 2 jumbos. Since I prefer large curls/waves and have very thick, and now, very hard to curl hair, I also bought 2 extra packs of these jumbo rollers.
I just love them, the curls last all day, even with my chemically straightened hair!
