Customer Review: Good for shaving.

Back in the early 90s I was going through a bad acne period. I finally visited a dermatologist, and he put me on an Accutane regimen. I had sensitive skin and a tough beard, so regular shaving cream was too harsh (especially while taking Accutane - the solid brush-on cream I was using at the time burned the edges of my lips). He recommended that I shave with Cetaphil. Years later, my skin and beard are still troublesome. Therefore, I've kept Cetaphil as a part of my shaving regimen.
Cetaphil goes on well and provides a nice lubrication for my shaver. It's not harsh or irritating, even on a freshly shaved face. However, it's kind of cold in the morning, which is a bit counter-productive after heating my face with hot water and shower steam to soften the whiskers. So I put the bottle on the tub floor while showering to heat it up with the runoff. By the time I'm done, it's warm enough for application after rubbing some around my hands for a second or two.
However, even though Cetaphil feels good and lubricates well, its consistency is a bit thin to use alone. I like a good lather, so I combine Cetaphil with Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, which was recommended to me by a woman working at GNC. They mix well together, and I get a good, non-irritating shave by using the Gillette Fusion Power razor. For post-shave comfort and to prevent breakouts, I apply a product that contains salicylic acid, such as Clean&Clear Dual-Action Oil-Free moisturizing lotion.
If you have a razor-challenging beard and skin combination like me, then make Cetaphil part of your shaving routine. Recommended.

Molly, daughter or Richard- I usually write positive reviews on this site but not this time. Why on earth do dermatologists recommend this s***? Last year my hormones were all out of wack and I had a period for a whole month. I broke out severely as one would expect. Dermatologists (including mine) swear by this aweful chetaphil. I HATE IT! It wasnt strong enough for my skin. It made my acne even worse if you can imagine! I'd been using it for four months when I finally decided enough was enough and I started using Neutrogena Frangrance Free Facial Cleanser. That change made all the difference in the world! I still do have acne but now it is mild acne instead of severe acne. Now its mostly just old, light scarring and the occasional breakouts around my chin and lips the week before my period. One of my friends is a dietition and she also has used Cetaphil and didnt like it at all. Please do not buy Cetaphil even if your dermatologist recommends it. I first used this product because I had an allergic reaction to a shampoo I was using and couldnt use my normal soaps and lotions because they burned. I was very wary of or having to use Cetaphil, as I have been battling acne and super oily skin my entire life and I was afraid this cleanser would make me break out worse. Boy was I wrong! After just two days of using this cleanser in the morning, combined with the Moisturizing Cream (also a 5 star review from me) in the evening, my face was less oily and my acne cleared up greatly. It is not completely gone, but Im off to a great start at getting there. For those like me that have been battling acne and oil since their childhood and feel they've tried everything and nothing works, maybe give your face a rest and try the Cetaphil line of products? I have used everything from Proactive to high-end, high-buck cleansers, lotions and acne products and nothing has worked for me like Cetaphil has. If you are looking for a cleanser that will not leave any residue on your skin, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is one you should definitely buy.
The packaging is a perfect size that will last for months, with a pump bottle that is so convenient that it will encourage you to use it on a regular basis. It is most definitely non-irritating, but seems to clean deeply, becuase it eliminates the left-over cosmetics that you can sometimes detect on your cotton puffs even after a "thorough" going-over with much more expensive cleanser!
Even though it thorughly cleans, it does not overly strip your skin of natural oils. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is a product that has been around for quite some time, and doctors often recommend it to patients in search of a cleanser that will not damage your skin.
Give it a try -- I promise this is not one of those cleansers that will end up in your closet collecting dust!
Customer Review: Simple and Gently effective - and NOT expensive!

I try to simplify my life. This product removes makeup and gently cleanses without ever feeling harsh. In a pinch, I have cleansed, removed with a warm wet washcloth, and fell into bed without further ado - and no morning repercussions! Skin is soft and smooth, but never causes irritation or breakouts. No fussing with caps: 2-3 pumps do the job.
This always makes beauty magazines "top products" lists because it's effective. No, it doesn't have extra ingredients or magical potions, but why would you wash that stuff down the drain anyway? Save your $ for treatments & proper protection! Absolutely gentle enough to use on a baby with any problem skin issues - bathing, etc. Fragrance free.
Works off everything but the MOST stubborn waterproof eye makeup. Even then, a little extra & you are fine. Great as an all purpose cleanser/makeup remover for travel.
