Customer Review: Terrible Clips!
Summary: 2 Stars

I've been using hot rollers on a regular basis for more than 10 years. I have been using Conair's older model with large rollers similar to this one and have loved them. I was reluctant to try something new, but my set is getting so broke down it's a pain to use. This set was the closest I got find to what I'm used to. I wish the rollers were all one size, but that's not a big deal. I don't like the slit down the middle, but could live with it. The rollers get much hotter than my last set and a few were burning my fingers while I put them in. However, the biggest downfall that I can NOT live with are the clips! After going back and reading other reviews, I think they must have changed the clips that come with this set, because other comments to not make sense. My clips are gray, plastic, solid bulky hinge clips. They take up so much room, that the only way to fit the next roller is to put the clip straight up away from your head. When you do that, you get a HUGE dent in your hair! It's totally noticeable and completely unacceptable! They did produce nice big curls that lasted reasonably long, but with these clips they're not usable. I ended up using the old school simple metal U clips from my old set last night. I'm very disappointed as these were the only rollers I could find that were close to what I'm used to using.

Customer Review: Shame on you Conair
Summary: 3 Stars

My hair is naturally wavy unless I brush it straight while blow drying and when trying to curl it, my hair is thin and silky making it difficult to roll up or keep in a curling iron. Then I bought the Conair CHV14N Jumbo Roller set and was soon frustrated by the stupid pins included with the rollers. They do not stay put and the roller gradually falls off.
Allow me to describe; first, I grab a small clump of hair and using my fingers, manipulate the roller to hold the ends of my hair while trying to keep the ends from flying out. Finally, I suceed in getting the hair to stay in the roller (the roller is rolled up to the area of my ear, just trying to curl in the ends, not all the way to the root). Then I reach for a pin and get it on there all right, begin work on the next clump of hair when the first roller starts to creep it's way down, no longer horizontal, but becoming more vertical.
Solution? I went to Meijer's and found some roller hinge-type clips for 5 bucks in a bag of 10. Sure makes a difference. Also, I am having trouble rolling up the back hair. Any tips there? My overall hair length uncurled is just below shoulder length. Hope this helps. I sure wish that Conair had included hinge clips with this set; the pins are practically useless for my fine hair.

Customer Review: Worth Every Penny!
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading the reviews about the product, I thought I would give these rollers a try. My hair is shoulder length, but can get frizzy at times and I am also in the middle of growing out a bad haircut. When I would blow dry my hair and style it with a round brush, it still didn't look the way I wanted it to.

The first set of these rollers arrived, but I had to return them because they were damaged. There was an awful smell when they heated, so Amazon sent me a new set, and picked up the damaged one.

I am so glad, because these rollers are fantastic! My hair is very manageable, and it is making the growing out process very easy. The curl stays in all day, and my hair seems and looks healthier. And it only takes a couple minutes to heat up.

The only thing I would change is that I wish the curler would light up when it is heated. There is a red mark on one curler which I thought would change color when heated but it doesn't which is a shame because it would be a way to tell when the rollers are heated. Years ago, that's how you could tell when they were heated properly.

But overall, they are worth every penny and it makes difficult hair look great. What an improvement!

Customer Review: love these
Summary: 5 Stars

i have always wanted that sexy soft curl/wavy (most near the end of the hair) look that is so in right now. i have long hair (right up to the tops of my breasts), it's thick Asian hair, highlights, relatively healthy.

i heat them up for 5 minutes, spritz a little styling lotion (i use bumble and bumble), make sure your hair is dry, then roll. really easy to roll my hair in (i have an old remington est that is super hard to roll hair in, i think b/c the rollers are too small, so i have to use small sections of hair at a time). the metal clips are so so...they did their job, most of the hair stayed in the roller while i did my make up, but i wouldn't recommend the metal clips if you're going to go around the house waiting for it to set. i unrolled probably after 15 minutes, and my hair had the soft big curls, super bouncy, loved it. i then put a ping pong ball size of mousse (i used giovanni, which i just discovered, love it, all natural stuff and smells great) and work in my hair.

the rollers are not too hot to handle, i feel like my hair doesn't break b/c of the velcro lining on the rollers, and i think the 1.5 in size is great! highly recommend them!

Customer Review: Jumbo & Super Jumbo with BEST CLIPS!

Conair CHV14JXR Extreme Heat Jumbo and Super Jumbo Rollers

I was never before able to use hot rollers. I am pretty good at this sort of thing, but I have never been able to use the wire clips that the old fashioned rollers had, and the "super clips" that are like butterflies with teeth, leave crimp marks. Hair looks terrible with crimp marks. I am desperate to purchase additional clips like the ones that come with this set to use with other sets that came with either the wire clips or the butterfly-teeth clips. If anyone knows where and how I can get those, please tell. The single negative thing I find with this product is that the plastic hinged top breaks. I don't know why. I'm now purchasing a third set for that reason. First the hinge broke on my current one, and then the plastic itself. The one I had before that, it was just the cracked plastic top. To improve the design, Conair should make a hinge that will stay open when required, and a clear plastic top that will not crack on its own. Also, it would be better if the heater had an auto-off (as some other models do).
