Customer Reviews of Conair CHV14JXR Extreme Heat Jumbo and Super Jumbo RollersCustomer Review: great, but not for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I have tried these rollers a few times and I really love them. They heat up quickly and they don't burn your fingers. And I really love the curls. The reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars is 1) the pins are terrible. My hair just unrolls right out of them. Maybe they aren't long enough to create tension. So I bought 2 sets of the hinge clips at 9 dollars a piece, adding 18 bucks to my investment. 2) the super jumbo rollers are completely worthless. When I unroll them my hair is totally straight except for the very end. 3)since there are only 8 usable rollers I bought another set adding 30 bucks to the total.
To give some context, my hair is fine and pin straight. But I have a LOT of hair and it's long and layered (it reaches my elbows). So the 16 jumbo rollers from the 2 sets is sufficient to roll all of my hair in one round.
I do love the way my hair look (and I generally hate my hair!) I just wish I could buy enough rollers to roll all of my hair all in one size and with clips that actually secure the rollers for less than $80.
Customer Review: Just Okay Summary: 3 Stars
I would say that these rollers are "just okay." I do have very thick, coarse, hard to manage hair, but I have used other brands of rollers successfully before. As my hair is also pretty wavy, it generally holds curl all day long quite well, so with other brands of rollers, I only have to leave them in for 5 minutes or so to get my desired result. (Just basically to give the ends of my hair direction, tame down the frizz, and give it some body.) With this product, I not only have to heat them up for at least a half hour to get them hot enough to do anything, but I also have to keep them in at least 20 minutes to get my hair to hold the curl. And even then, it loses the curl after about an hour.
The best results I've gotten have been when my hair has a ton of product in it and has not been washed in at least 24 hours. In that case, they do work very well and my hair will hold the "body" for almost a whole day.
Might work better for someone with more manageable hair. I honestly just think they don't get hot enough for me.
Customer Review: read my review Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this product for over a year. I have medium length hair and product performs beautifully. Many of the reviews I've read about hot rollers are from women who don't know how to curl their hair - not about how the product performs.
First, this item is not for travel - the plastic lid will crack. Second, the metal clips become extremely hot if you leave them in the casing when you are heating the element. Always remove clips and set aside while heating your curlers.
Second, from time to time, you will have to sweep out dead hair that gets trapped inside the element. Not attractive I realize but thought you should know.
Third, all rollers are the same size so if you'd like tight small curls around your face, this product is not for you.
This is my 2nd set of Conair rollers and my first set is still working after 20 years. I highly recommend this product for women who are looking for a reliable set of hot rollers for daily use. Not recommended for travel.
Customer Review: Love this Model <3 Summary: 5 Stars
I was actually fed up with the previous model, which did a lovely job until I broke the lid. This model has some major advantages.
#1 the faceplate is open, which allows for cleaning miscellaneous hairs that would get stuck in the previous model. I love this aspect. The older model would look kind of cruddy after awhile.
#2 It comes with 4 super jumbo rollers, which are perfect for shorter layers or shoulder length hair. The rollers leave an awesome shine. My hair is naturally wavy, but I hate blow drying my hair straight so I opt for hot rollers.
#3 I love the fact that they come with the traditional wire clips vs. the new palstic clips. The wire clips don't leave indentations on your hairdo.
#4 The rollers heat up instantly. I can turn my rollers on, walk my dog, roll my hair upon my return :)
The previous model had a caddy for the wire clips and this model does not. The elimination of the wire clip is the only drawback.
Customer Review: TERRIBLE!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I have hair that is down a little past my shoulders, and is of average thickness. I bought these rollers looking for curlers that would give me softer, larger curls than I get with my hot sticks (those end up very tight and spiral-y!). Weeell, these didn't give me a curl at all! All they did was make the very ends of my hair a little wavy, and didn't do a thing to the top of my hair! It was as straight as ever!
At first, I thought maybe I had put too much hair on each curler, so I tried just curling HALF of my hair with all 12 rollers, but got the same result: No curls, just a tiny bit of body at the ends of my hair. I even left them in for 20 minutes instead of the recommended 10 minutes. I know I let them heat up long enough, too, because a few rollers burned my neck.
This is the worst hair-curling product I have ever come across! Even my grandmother's foam rollers (that have no heat) work better than these things! Don't waste your money!!!!
