Customer Reviews of EcoTools MINERAL 5pc Make Up Brush Travel Set 1213Customer Review: Good Brush(es) at a Good Price Summary: 5 Stars
I have many brushes, but I reach for this EcoTools long-handled powder brush every day. It is VERY soft and applies mineral powder just right. I find the other brushes (Bare Mineral, Stila, Sephora, etc.) stabs me a bit because the bristles are just a little pokey. They'd feel okay on the hand, but on the face--Ouch.
I don't even know where the other three brushes from this set are even though they were good too. I used to use the small fluffy one for undereye brightening powder, and the flat one for concealer. The kabuki I didn't use much because the shape was too rounded at the end and somehow I didn't like the way it picked up my powder foundation at the time. I think the powder was flying all over the place (onto my black top/pants) because the roundness prevented good contact with the face.
Overall, they are great brushes, esp. the long powder brush. Why pay a higher price for other brands when this one is just as good or better?
Some brush tips (pun intended) :)
-- I heard that baby shampoo may be too drying for some bristles. So I thought: if my face cleanser is good enough to take off my makeup & gentle enough for my face, it should be good enough for the brushes. It worked nicely--I used Obagi NuDerm cleanser. There seems to always be samples lying around. Use a cleanser for oily complexion or one that takes off makeup well or one that you no longer use on your face.
-- Sephora makes a brush shampoo that you spray on, rub in, & rinse off. Easy. Four oz. spray for I think $5-6. Need very little to clean.
-- I don't even buy double-ended brushes anymore. First & foremost bec I can't stand it up in my makeup caddy for everyday use. I've considered getting the brush guards on Amazon but seems too troublesome, and they might pull hairs back & ruin brushes. Second, they tend to be longer and just too troublesome to travel with. Third, even if they're shorter I have trouble fitting them into an elastic holder inside the brush case (again, the hairs can get pulled backward thus ruining the brush). Lastly, if you don't have any use for one end anymore, you're still stuck with it unless your husband is handy w/ the circular saw (obviously mine is not).
I used to dread putting my face on, but a while ago my sister said to me--that's part of the privileges of being a woman. It changed my whole attitude and now I have fun with makeup. It doesn't have to be the same look every day. Now you go and have fun. :)
Customer Review: Wrong Item Pictured/Described Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this item twice, once from a 3rd party seller (fulfilled by Amazon), and once from Amazon. Both times the item received was not the 5-piece brush set pictured, but the 6-piece brush set. I returned the first one, and advised Amazon that the item received was different from what was ordered. Excellent customer service -- they refunded my money before I even returned the item. I followed a link provided by Amazon for the 5-piece brush set, and it was cheaper directly from Amazon, so I ordered it again, thinking the inventory error had to do with the 3rd party seller. But, I just received the 6-piece brush set again.
The brushes are great, but they are different from the ones in the 5-piece set.
Here is a link to the brush set that I received: EcoTools BAMBOO 6-pc Makeup Brush Set 1206. I also posted a pic of the actual item received under customer images.
The item received (6-piece set) includes the following brushes:
-blush brush
-eye shading brush
-eyeliner brush
-lash & brow groomer
-concealer brush
-cosmetic bag
The item on this product page (5-piece set)includes the following (listed under Important Information):
-Mineral Powder Brush
-Concealer Brush
-Eye Shading Brush
-Baby Kabuki
-Cosmetic Bag
I ordered the 5-piece set specifically for the mineral powder brush, and this is not included in the set I received. Again, these brushes are great, it's just that you might not receive the correct set. From reading the other reviews, it looks like a couple of others have also received the incorrect item.
If I wanted to return these ones too I'm sure I would receive excellent customer service from Amazon, as usual. But I think I'll keep these ones, and look for the one I want (Mineral Powder Brush)at a local store -- it came with a coupon for $1.00 off any Ecotools product.
Customer Review: Environmentally Friendly-Cruelty Free & they work very well! Summary: 5 Stars
The name of the brand says it all, and if you care about the environment and animals( as I do), these are the brushes you should choose for your cosmetic application.
For myself, these brushes suited my needs perfectly.
I also bought other sets from ECOTOOLS. I was not disappointed.
I do want to clarify something: For the average woman who uses make up, these products will meet their expectations and then some.
Make up artists, due to their line of business, may be pickier about their brushes.
I can appreciate that, after all, this is how they make a living.
I am NOT saying a make up artist should not buy these brushes;
I just know that many have high standards regarding the items they use in their make up tool box, and one true artistry brush by itself could be 3 times or more, the cost of a Ecotool set.
(That being said- I am sure out of the selection ECOTOOLS offers, there has to be some brushes that a make up artist would be more than satisfied with.)
Side Note: Whether it comes to make up application or working on crafts- I have never been fond of real hair brushes.
They can be a disaster when crafting with paint with loose hairs getting stuck in your project.
With regards to make up application, brushes that shed hair have always been a turn off for me.
Sure, the better quality real hair make up brushes don't have as much of a shedding problem, but do you want to spend that kind of money PER BRUSH?
I think the prices on ECOTOOLS items are reasonable;especially considering how many tools you get in a package.
Buying from this company is both a practical and a *feel good* purchase and I will continue to use their products.
I only wish more companies cared enough to provide cruelty free brush options.
Customer Review: Wonderful Tools & No More Allergies! Summary: 5 Stars
These are fantastic.
I spent years trying to find make-up that didn't irritate my face. One too many time I ended up with skin that was warm & red or bumpy. I tried different brands, different skin care, etc. Still, I was often allergic to the things I used on my face, I just couldn't figure out the culprit. One day it dawned on me . . . I am allergic to cats and I've never been able to wear wool or any other type of animal fur. Perhaps, I thought, even though most make-up brushes are made out of goat hair (which I didn't have on my list of possible allergies), it was the brushes.
I purchased these synthetic tools and voila . . . my skin is no longer irritated. Not only are they a HUGE benefit to people with allergies to animal hair brushes (I have now found out that tons of women suffer from this allergy to animal hair brushes and have no idea) they are also amazing quality. The handles, the ferrules, and the bristles are all well constructed. There is no wobble, there is very little bristle loss, the handles are smooth (not rough like most handles), and they are easy to clean without turning frizzy like many natural hair brushes. They can be washed without losing their shape. I also love that they don't emit that "wet dog hair" smell when I wash them.
The small decrease in the ability of the synthetic brushes to pick up make-up remedies quickly as the synthetic brushes pick up a small amount of your natural skin oils. I like using them with traditional as well as mineral make-up.
I am absolutely in love with these brushes. They are nicer than the most expensive ones I have owned (including the top of the line artist brushes that many make-up artists choose to use). I hope to eventually purchase all of their various brushes as I am sure I will find a need for all of them.
Customer Review: Small In Size - Quality Material Summary: 5 Stars
This item comes with four brushes: a baby kabuki, an eye shading, a mineral powder and concealer brush. They are relatively small... all the brushes, minus the baby kabuki one, are about four and three-quarters inches long. The baby kabuki brush is only about three inches long. I find that I like the compact-size of these brushes, and it suits my needs, but the size is probably not for everyone.
The metal is made from recycled aluminum, the cosmetic bag is made from natural cotton (45%) and hemp (55% hemp linen). This product is unfortunately made in China... I only say unfortunately on my part, because I really try to go out of my way now to support products that are made in the US.
Overall, I think these brushes are great! They are very soft, and if anyone has had a cheaply made brush you know that they will prickle your skin and the bristles will even shed onto your just made-up face. So far I haven't had the shedding problem, and all four brushes have not given me any pokes!
I did however not buy this online. I went to a local Walgreens (first went to a CVS, but they didn't carry this brand), and was able to purchases it for 11.99 + tax. So I would just keep that in mind, if you're not willing to wait/pay shipping and handling and an extra buck for this item.
EDIT:
I thought I should also add that I use a different pouch than the one provided. To me, it is a bit too cramped to fit all the brushes in comfortably, without "ruffling" the bristles.
