Estee Lauder offers several small metal compacts that easily slip into an evening bag, and the selection changes regularly. The "After Hours Slim Compact" has staying power, though; Estee Lauder has offered this one for quite a few years. It's simple and elegant, equally suitable for daytime use and evening glamour. The compact is circular, 2 inches in diameter. That's a little small if you carry a large day bag, but it beats those typically oversized compacts of pressed powder that were designed without portability in mind. The size is perfect for an evening bag or small purse. The compact is a warm gold color resembling brass. No need to mangle your manicure to get it open; just push the knob on the front. Easy and elegant.
Inside, there is an approximately 1 3/4-inch round mirror and 1 1/2-inch diameter cake of 0.1 oz/2.8g Lucidity pressed powder. The pressed powder is held in place by a magnet and can be easily pried up for replacement using a finger nail or any small instrument, yet it does not fall out when the compact is turned upside down. There is a small 1 3/8-inch diameter sponge with metallic gold backing to use to apply the powder. The applicator is a little too small to be practical, but it is okay for touch-ups and powdering one's nose. The "After Hours" compact comes with Transparent powder. The Transparent goes on rather light at first and can streak on darker skin tones. This is the product's flaw. Refills are only available in Transparent and Light/Medium (Intensity 02). If you have darker skin, try the Transparent on your skin before purchasing to see if it is acceptable.
The "After Hours Slim Compact" comes in a navy blue velvet pouch inside of an attractive gift box which is, in turn, inside of a less attractive box with product information on it. It makes a lovely gift. The golden case is elegant without being gaudy or fussy. It's nice to have pressed powder handy without having to tote a heavy, clumsy compact. This compact is actually compact. Unfortunately, the lack of refills in medium and dark shades limits its market, even though the compact itself is very well-designed.
