Customer Reviews of Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling IronCustomer Review: Hot! Summary: 5 Stars
I had a really terrible old conair that I replaced with this. They are not even in the same universe. Your hair WILL be straight. This thing gets really hot. Fast. I use it mainly for flipping out the ends by turning it on the side. I've had it for a couple months and haven't had any problems yet. It was worth the arm and leg I paid. You do get what you pay for. The only problem I have had is that if you are heavy handed with it and don't run it down the hair in a smooth motion, you can get a weird iron mark in the middle of the strand. I never got that with my old straightener, probably because it wasn't capable of heating the hair enough to do that. Practice makes perfect, though. If you use it enough, you stop burning yourself with its fiery hot edge and quit leaving iron marks on your hair. Stars reduced only because that was a lot to pay for a hair appliance that could break tomorrow.
ETA: So I'm still using this years later. It has never had a problem. Works great for straightening, flipping ends out or turning them under. It really deserves 5 stars so I'm editing the review to do that. Just a caution though to be careful not to burn your hair or skin. It really is hot.
Customer Review: This Flat Iron is the Solution!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have typical African American hair that is course, dry, and needs a lot of oil and moisturization to maintain a soft, straight texture to my hair. I try to refrain from relaxing my hair as long as possible, so I usually wash and blow dry my hair with a comb attachment and liquid oil, which works very well to straighten and shine hair (but not leave it heavy and greasy). I use a flat iron (in conjunction to marcel wax (a God send) or pressing oil (the one that starts with D) on those spots that need some additional smoothing and shine. Since my hair is very thick, this process can take about two hours! I usually have the pass the iron through several times with moderate success in smoothing the hair. I bought this iron, after seeing such excellent reviews. I opened the package, and saw that there's no temperature control, which was concerning, but I decided to test it out. It took one pass on a section of hair, and that strand was completely STRAIGHT!!! Excited, I finished my head in 20 minutes instead of 2 hours...Thanks to this iron, I can wash, condition and straighten my hair in less than an hour!!! It's so soft and shiny, even after a day since using the iron. Five stars!!!
Customer Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I have crazy, wild, frizzy hair. It hates dry weather, cold weather, wet weather, hot weather, you name it. I also have short hair, which means that, without some love and tenderness, it likes to do nothing more than stick straight up from my head in some sort of punk-revival spike do. Enter the Chi. With Chi, I have luxurious (if short), silky, flat, non-frizzy, non-static-y, fabulous, happy, pretty hair!
I can also safely, if somewhat ashamedly, say that I am a complete idiot when it comes to hairstyling. I have no talent for styling and have never been able to use a styling tool with much success. Not so with Chi. This little miracle is easy even for someone whose hands are all thumbs to use! I just plug it in, let it heat up (for about 15 seconds--really!) and then go to town. Approximately 3 minutes later, my hair is done and I am on my way to work. Hooray!
This piece of equipment is amazing. It should be in everyone's hair product stash and should be used with love and joy every time it is plugged in. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, and regularly do. Just make sure to use a thermal protectant when you iron away!
Customer Review: Old version good, new iron TERRIBLE!! Very disappointed! Summary: 1 Stars
I have used 3 Chi irons before and they were all amazing!
when the last one broke down, i logged onto amazon and ordered another one, same model and everything, the basic classic chi! To my surprize, i started using it and realized that it's not what i previously had......it didn't feel the same and didn't straighten my hair as well as it used to.
I returned the item back thinking it's defective or something and bought another one from a local store. It turns out that all the newly manufactured chi's have a different ceramic plate than they used to (compared it to the old one) and it doesn't work as well. You can even tell by looking at it, it's not as shiny as the old one. Now, when i go out on a humid day, my hair's all over the place and the only solution to that it just tying it all back!! :-(
I will send a letter to the manufacturer regarding their poor quality! This is deceitful, they started off with something good and when they got all the fame for having a good product, they changed the flat iron without mentioning it on their packaging!!
Very Very disappointed!!!
Customer Review: 2 years and still strong Summary: 5 Stars
I have think wavy hair, with some corse curly bits at the bottom. I tried Conair and Babyliss, among other, before, but none of them have worked as well as the CHI. I've been using this product for almost two years, and I'm still 100% satisfied. If only takes me 15 minutes to straighten my hair and with other products it took approx. 30 mins.
Some days it may take a lttle longer than 15 mins, but that's rare.
I used it friends who have tight cruls and it worked wonders.
It really does save time and I rarely need to touch it up. Usually I can go until my hair needs to be washed without touching it up.
Personally, I feel that sometimes the shampoo and conditioner you use affects the way your hair straightens (with any flat iron). For my hair fructus works best, and its the worst with pantene Pro V. So if you figure out whats good for your hair, you should have no problems with the CHI.
You may want to use mosturizing treatments for addded shine and silkiness, but I find that the CHI makes your look shiny and feel so smooth.
This is the best straightening product I have ever used, I don't even find a need to put serum.
