Customer Reviews of Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron

Customer Review: The Chi has changed my life!
Summary: 5 Stars

This ceramic flat iron is almost too good to be true. I keep waiting for the Chi to dissapoint, but it has not yet. I have been using the Chi for over 4 years and to me, its the greatest invention since the wheel!

Life before & after the Chi:
1. Before: Blow-dry, then straighten (which would take over 30 mintues), and my hair would still look "big"!
After: Just straighten (which takes about 5 minutes) and it looks great!
2. Before: I would have to style my hair a day before a special event becuase my hair would always look better the day after styling...which would mean I had to plan ahead!
After: I can straighten my hair just before the special event...and my hair looks fabulous!

Some people say the Chi makes their hair look too flat. My suggestions would be:
1. Seperate your hair into 3 horizontal sections, and only straighten the top 2 sections. Leave the bottom section un-styled, as the natural curls/frizziness of this section will keep the rest of your style looking bouncy.
2. Do not start straightening the hair from your scalp, rather starighten the hair starting about an inch or two from your scalp. This will prevent it from being too flat (esp if you are like me and do not wash your hair daily).

Some other suggestions:
1. This straightener produces serious heat, so don't use this daily.
2. Do not use any hair products (ie - gel, serum) as this may make your hair look more limp and causes build-up on the flat iron plates.
3. Be careful if you use this abroad. Even if you have a converter, it may blow out. I learned this the hard way:(

This is not a cheap product...but with the amount of time I save styling my hair, that alone makes it more than worth the price! Plus, my hair looks so much better!

Customer Review: chi is a must for us fuzzheads
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a replacement for a red Chi that lasted about two years with my 17 year old daughter. My 20 year old got a pink Chi at the same time. They both bit the dust at almost exactly two years from date of receit. I have the old ugly black salon style, this one, that is on its third year. For the first year, we were all three using it, yet it's still going. I don't know if the "pretty ones" have different specs or construction, but I'm opting for a standard, salon style replacement to see if it makes a difference.
I am caucasian. My hair is naturally wavy changing to naturally fuzzy and frizzy with any humidity. I use good products, applied after washing and rinsing out conditioner while hair is still wet such as Biosilk's Silk Therapy and Aquage's Beyond Shine, both applied liberally. I blow dry, which makes it very fuzzy and frizzy, then spray on more Beyond Shine liberally, working it through the hair, yet avoiding too much on roots, which makes my hair shine like crazy. I then use the Chi. It gives us straight, silky, shiny hair when used properly. Do quick runs down separated hair strands about 2 or 3 times. Don't linger too long or damage can occur. Use it minimally to straighten, it is extremely hot. I can not emphasize that enough. Be careful not to let it touch your ear or other skin. It will burn you quickly and can scar.
NEVER use the Chi on damp or wet hair! It will steam cook your hair. I had a salon stylist in a hurry do that to me on my damp hair, and I'm still trying to grow out the damage 6 months later (much of it has just broken off.) My hair was fried and didn't even look like caucasian hair. It has taken many expensive conditioning heat cap treatments to even look normal again. Use it wisely and carefully and you will love it.

Customer Review: Farouk Chi Hairstyling Iron Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Farouk CHI 1 inch ceramic flat hairstyling iron a little over a year ago from Amazon.com. I use this iron almost every day and I absolutely love it! Farouk flat irons are a higher end model for hairstyling devices so they can be pretty expensive, sometimes running as high as $200! But, I found a more affordable one online at Amazon. When originally looking for a high quality flat iron, I soon learned that Farouk flat irons are one of the best brands in the market! Through my search, I learned quickly that Farouk's flat irons are used at most beauty salons and have earned them an impressive reputation. Through my use, I have noticed that they are extremely durable hairstyling devices. I have dropped my flat iron several times and it has always avoided damage. Also, I have accidently left my flat iron on for several hours without it becoming damaged or anything near it. But, it is not due to human error why Farouk's have a great reputation. Farouk have earned a high reputation because the irons have a ceramic coating which prevents extreme heat from damaging the hair, which is great since most women straighten their hair almost every day! Also, this iron takes only one time to flatten a section of hair. This is unlike most other hairstyling devices because usually it takes three to four times to straighten a section. This can be extremely damaging to the hair due to the repeated heat. When using the Farouk flat iron, I recommend using the Farouk Heat Protection Spray which coats the hair with a protective agent. I have a noticed a significant difference in the amount of damage since using the spray with this flat iron! My only complaint is with amazon.com, the flat iron was originally to be mailed within a few days but instead took several weeks.

Customer Review: Great...while it lasted
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this for my girlfriend in September of 2007. Up until that point, she had a drawer in our place full of hair straighteners that she had bought and just didn't really like (and couldn't bear to throw away since she had spent money on them and would occasionally go back to an old straightener again). Literally, almost every month she would go out to the store, and buy another relatively inexpensive hair straightener that worked, but not to her satisfaction. Seeing all the money that she was throwing away on hair straighteners, and how we were running out of drawers for her to put her old hair straighteners in, I researched into it and found the Farouk Chi. She absolutely loved it. It completely blew all her other hair straighteners out of the water. I absolutely loved it, because she seemed to take a lot less time to get ready, and I could finally give her old straighteners to Goodwill and get my drawer back.

However, there was a major drawback with the unit as well. After about ten months, it just stopped working. She had never dropped it, or gotten it wet...it just randomly wouldn't turn on anymore. Thinking it would be under warranty, I contacted the company only to find that the Chi has a one year warranty, only if you buy it in person, from a store or hair salon. If you buy it online, it's only a 30-day warranty.

All in all, I would still say it was a good buy, warranty issue aside. In our case, the hair straightener paid for itself, because it prevented her from buying a bunch of others in that 10 month span that it worked. And now that the price has dropped so much (when I purchased it for her, it was $110 I believe...today it's only $70), I think it's time to get her another one.

Customer Review: Worth The Pain
Summary: 5 Stars

I had been using a regular old Conair flat iron for about a year or two. While the flat iron worked well for me during the winter months when the Louisiana humidity wouldn't act up, I didn't bother to waste my time with it during the rest of the year because as soon as I'd step outside, my naturally curly hair would resort back to it's natural form.
Last year I was given the CHI model as a gift and let's just say that I "donated" the Conair model. I'm not the kind of person to follow with celebrity trends, but there is a reason why this flat iron is so popular with the "elite," if you will.
It takes up half the time my old Conair model did in heating up. Hell, I can get my hair done in less time with the Chi than it would take for my old flat iron to heat up! My hair is soft, shiny, and it doesn't look or feel like I'm putting it through a torture chamber.
I was raised to believe that it is rude to ask someone how much money they may have spent on a personal gift. My cousin owns a Chi flat iron and slipped the price one day during a conversation. While I am shocked that it cost that much money, I can only tell the fellow curly haired, humidity suffering people that this flat iron is worth every single penny!
Now my only complaint with the flat iron is the heat. I actually had to flat iron my hair with gloves on a few times because my hair would get so hot after running it through the flat iron. The blister on my fingers from the heat should be a warning to the accident prone, but when I walk out of the house in the morning and return home at night with my hair not in a curl frenzy, it's well worth it. I guess you could say pain is love.
