Customer Reviews of HD Vision Sunglasses, UltraCustomer Review: Migraine sufferers might want to give it a try.... Summary: 3 Stars
I didn't pay $15 or $20 so that was a huge factor in this review. I paid about $8 at Bed Bath and Beyond (was $10 but I had a coupon).
For what I paid, it's sort of what I expected. The plastic is thin and the feel is cheap. It almost feels fragile in your hands when you are flipping the arms open. This wasn't really a bad point for me because I'm not usually rough with my glasses and always have some sort of case handy. I actually thought it was nice that these glasses were lighter than most. I was also drawn to these glasses because they looked sleeker and more stylish than some other ones I've seen. Not too trendy, not too old fashioned.
The lenses looked decent. The front of the lenses are a deep amber yellow color and the flip side of the lenses have a pretty neat purplish/blue metallic coating on them. The lenses actually look well made..and if it weren't for the cheap frame, it could pass for an expensive pair. Also no one has mentioned yet but the inside of the frame where it sits on the bridge of the nose actually has two rubber pads for comfort. I thought that was a nice touch especially for people like me who don't have a high enough bridge to wear a lot of other sunglasses.
Now on to the good stuff. I absolutely agree with the other reviews...Upon putting on these glasses, I was majorly disappointed. The average person who's never tried on a pair of REAL "HD" sunglasses would probably never know the difference. However, if you are one of the few who have, then you'd know that these don't even come close. I've tried the original Blublockers many years ago and they literally made everything "pop" when you put them on. They made everything stand out...almost 3 dimensional. Same with Ray-Bans. When you put them on and walked outside, you really do say, "wow!". I put these so called "HD" vision sunglasses on and it's like everything is just as flat as it was before I put them on. Really disappointing and now I'm thinking about getting the original Blublockers or something similar because that was what I was looking for.
On a good note they do work in blocking out glare..that's the only fact. I am prone to migraines and still need to drive and function everyday. My light sensitivity is actually not bad when the skies are blue and sunny. The real sensitivity to light comes when it's overcast or foggy..it's almost like staring at a lightsource reflected over a white sheet of paper. These glasses really help to block out the glare while still keeping everything else bright and in focus. Dark sunglasses just darken everything making it just that much more difficult to focus my eyes (even adding more strain) when I have a migraine. These glasses are also great for sunrise and sunset when the sun is just blinding...pretty effective.
I'm giving the glasses 3 stars for somewhat doing what it says, for the pretty good quality overall in the craftsmanship (lenses fit in frame perfectly, arms fold in/and out smoothly, no imperfections in plastic frame, no scratches on plastic or lenses right out of box, etc.) and also for the sleek style. No stars for the cheap feeling plastic material though. Even if the glasses did not perform at all, I'd still consider them an OK buy for $7-$8 like the usual fashion glasses out there. Alternatively, you can save your money and use it towards an actual pair of sunglasses that can really give you the anti-glare and "HD" like vision.
* A word of caution for those who are considering wearing these at night.... If you plan to do city driving these will likely be fine since there are plenty of street lights around and there aren't a lot of surprises in your path. I don't think these will work very well in any other situation because the slight tint makes surrounding areas even darker than if you were to look with the naked eye.
