On certain perfume websites populated by scent snobs there is many a harsh word spoken about Idole d'Armani.

I sure wish I knew what these blog gods were really sniffing. If there's a strong pear influence in Idole, I'm missing it, and it's never been my ambition to smell complicated - just good.
My personal experience with Idole d'Armani is that in the first whiff it breathes out a youthful, gentle but not sugary sweet, aura of clean florals and fruit, which quickly deepens into a combination of richer flavors, somewhat similar to another favorite of mine called Aimez Moi by Caron, but with a lighter individual twist of its own. Somewhere in its make-up, Idole has a twist of 'green' that balances out the richer combination of spices (similar to Aimez Moi, but only passingly) that Idole becomes. It's a perfume that's definitely present and accounted for, but it's not in any way overwhelming. I think it can be worn year round, which also a plus in my book. Plus, it's garnered compliments from total strangers. What more, what better, is necessary in a perfume? That it cost $200?
Most of the perfumes I like best have a common factor: they last. I can't stand it when a perfume is placed on the skin and it's gone within 10 minutes. On the other hand, I don't want to burn off my neighbor's noses with just a spritz or two. I want to wear perfumes that continue to be gently noticable throughout the working day. And as a working stiff, I say: Idole d'Armani is complex, and classy, enough for me.
