I am definitely a fan of Iman! Her Second-to-None Cream to Powder foundation is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best foundations out there. As I have acne-prone skin, however, I decided that cream or liquid makeup was a bit too heavy for my personal everyday use (though I must add that her foundation aggravated my skin the LEAST of all 12 or so cream-to-powders that I have tried)and have found that mineral foundation makes my sensitive skin the happiest. I had recently been using Avon's mineral foundation, but when I heard that Iman developed a "semi-loose" (i.e. heavier) powder, I decided to give it a try, remembering how much I loved her cream foundation.
I definitely found a keeper here! First of all, I must say that the powder is indeed heavier than most loose powders, but it still is a bit lighter than most mineral foundations. Therefore, if you, like me, will be using this powder as your foundation, you may want to add an extra coat. For example, I usually apply a single layer of mineral foundation, but I apply 2 light layers of Iman's Semi-Loose powder to get the same coverage. I also MUST use concealor on any blemishes, as this powder makes my skin glow, but doesn't cover anything red or dark brown!
The color of this powder, however (mine is Clay Medium Dark) is absolutely gorgeous! My skin looks matte and luminescent, and it does help to keep some of my oil down (however, as I have very oily skin, I personally still need to touch up a couple times a day with an oil blotting sheet to keep the shine away). Though it does last, I feel a touch-up may be needed after a typical work day (8 hours or so). As it is thinner than mineral makeup, I guess it just wears away a little sooner. The up side of this, however, is that it seems to wash off a little easier than mineral makeup. Also, you are given a small, straight brush, but...um...I don't think it's very effective as a all-over face brush! To apply this, I use a full kabuki-style brush (cone-shaped). To me, using the brush that they give you to do your whole face is like painting a wall with a toothbrush! Not only will it take forever, but it will probably leave weird lines and marks.
So...
PROS - Gorgeous finish; heavier than most loose powders; helps keep oil down; slightly easier to remove than mineral foundation.
CONS - Lighter than most mineral foundations; won't really cover blemishes; won't last as long as mineral foundation.
