Customer Reviews of Jerdon Classic JGL9W Lighted Tri-fold Mirror, 5x MagnificationCustomer Review: Was happy until... Summary: 3 Stars
I read the reviews here and went out and bought one anyway, because it truly is brighter than the majority of lit mirrors available. I've loved it for the past 4 months, but recently in the past couple of weeks it has developed the lag time. The bulb still works, but like others have experienced, there is now about a 5 second lapse between the time that I flip the switch and the time that the light comes on. This started out a couple weeks ago as 2 seconds, then gradually increased, and I can only imagine that it will continue to do so. :( I have not had any problems with the bulb burning out as of yet. The problem is annoying but manageable....however if it were to become 15 or 30 seconds I'd probably become really frustrated. Otherwise, I think the mirror would be the best one available. I switch between "daylight" and "home" because I find that "office" is simply green and "evening" doesn't provide enough light. Also, the stand is a little flimsy and can easily be toppled over, so they should build in some kind of lock to keep it more secure. The outlet in the base of the mirror is very convenient, though I wouldn't risk it with higher voltage appliances.
EDIT: About a month after writing the review above, I turned on my mirror and it no longer comes on. Yes, I tried holding the ON button for a while. Nothing. It's dead.
Customer Review: The best lighted makeup mirror for the money.... Summary: 5 Stars
Here's why.... I searched high and low for a decent lighted makeup mirror similiar to the one I had for years. My old mirror was a Windmere, lasted about 12 years. Prior to that I had a Clairol (lighting was just OK). Days of web searches led me to those horrible round halo lighted mirrors (they just look good on a counter) and serve no purpose. This Jerdon is basically the same mirror as my old Windmere. Very sturdy, great lighting, large rectangle mirror, side mirrors, vertical 360' rotation, 5X magnification on reverse side of mirror and 11 mirror positions, also an extra electrical outlet on front for appliances. The ISSUE regarding previous reviewers complaints about the lighting. You MUST hold the ON button down about 3 seconds to allow for the bulbs to light. The lighting on this mirror is superior to others I have seen. It weighs about 6 lbs and folds nicely away. The negatives to this mirror are: the bulbs make a slight buzzing noise when in use (typical of this type of bulb) and the electrical outlet was installed upside down on my product, therefore the mirror must be collapsed to a lower position to allow enough room for the plug. I consider these to be minor complaints considering the product services all my needs. If you want to go out of the house looking like you intend, this is the mirror for you. I would definitely buy again.
Customer Review: No longer dissatisfied, but not really confident about the product. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought two of these for my daughters back in January. They haven't used them very much, but one of them has the lights burned out already. I guess I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews. If you get unlucky and get a bad unit, then you're stuck with it if it's after 30 days from the purchase. I can't find any way to contact someone about the supposed one year warranty. I am surprised that Amazon doesn't offer any help since this is an item that they are selling directly. Oh well, I guess that's my good money down the drain. Everyone beware and don't buy this!
Update 10/2/10 I found the customer inquiry number for jerdon and spoke with them about the mirror. They had me return the cord of the unit and then shipped me a new one. It took about a month to get here, but it arrived last week. So I can vouch for the fact the company does stand by its warranty. I have changed my rating from a one to a three, since I still believe that the quality of the units are lacking since so many people are complaining about the units going out in such a short time. My original unit did not last long, and, as of right now, I have no faith that the new one will last any longer than the first one. So, I changed my rating to an OK.
Customer Review: Very disappointed. Summary: 1 Stars
I had very high hopes for this and ordered despite many not so favorable reviews. The first thing I noted was that the mirror is very small. It does tilt which makes it easier to see, but still it was difficult to see my whole face good. The next thing was the lights. Switching between the settings was difficult and I was afraid I was going to break it. I tried the daylight first and it was TERRIBLE! The "daylight" light lit up my face in a very unnatural way. It was like the light lit up the center of my face bright but cast dark shadows around the sides if that makes sense. I used to put on my makeup directly in front of a natural window and can tell you this "daylight" setting was NO WHERE near realistic. Unfortunately it only got worse from there. The "work" literally turned my whole face green, the "night" turned me dark pink and the "home" turned me light pink. I asked my husband, thinking perhaps I was being too critical. He took one look at all the different light settings and agreed that it seemed cheap and impossible to even sit in front of it with the bright lights for more than a minute, let alone put on makeup and look good! His first words were "send it back- it's junk!". So, all in all, I am sending this back tomorrow.
Customer Review: Be prepared to see EVERYTHING on you're face up close & personal! Summary: 4 Stars
I'll start out by saying this is the 1st lighted make up mirror I have ever had so I don't have much to compare it too but I still can review it & tell you what I think. Maybe it's just me, but it takes a little getting use to using it at 1st. I hated it at 1st because it took up so much space & two of the light settings might as well not even be on there because they are so gaudy looking. So I waited over a month to write a review & I did get use to to it & like it very much. It is bright enough for me (I also turn on the bedroom light while using it). I don't get why anyone would say it's not bright enough because as the title of my review states, you can see every little blemish, unwanted hair, & uneven skin spots on you're face but hey, that's what it's for, was just a little scary at 1st (lol). I personally don't use the side mirrors & wish they weren't there as they just take up space (but some may like them). Out of the 4 settings I use 2. Day & Home. "Office" looks hideous & yellow & "Evening" is just too dark for me. It also comes with an outlet on the base to plug a curling iron in which I really like. So far everything works correctly. Just if you don't need those side mirrors, get one without because it's a space grabber.
