Customer Reviews of Jerdon JSBD4 Soft Bonnet Hair DryerCustomer Review: Not so portable bonnet dryer Summary: 2 Stars
The look of this bonnet dryer is great, the price is right, and the bonnet is large enough to cover a head full of jumbo rollers. The flaw is in the design of the hose and the cord. Both pieces attach to the unit in such a way as to make closing the cover impossible. If the flexible hose and cord had been attached to the outside and allowed to recess into their respective spaces from that point, the cover could be closed and the user could walk around and do other things while drying the hair. Bonnet dryers take longer to dry hair than hand-held blow dryers -- it can take up to an hour to dry long, thick hair wrapped around medium rollers for a curly look. Thus, the need for portability. However, they can be used for conditioning treatments and have a gentler effect on the hair. Better choices are the Vidal Sassoon Soft Bonnet Dryer (about $29.00) and the Hot Tools Soft Bonnet Hair Dryer, Model 1051. The latter is more expensive at $45; however, I believe that it is also the most powerful. You get what you pay for. Finally, for treatments and dyeing, users of blow dryers can buy bonnet attachments with elasticized extensions that slip over the nozzle end of the blow dryer. They range from $10-$15.
Description of Jerdon JSBD4 Soft Bonnet Hair DryerSoft Bonnet Hair Dryer A welcome alternative to handheld dryers, the Jerdon soft-bonnet hair dryer uses a flexible 40-inch hose and a large plastic bonnet to create an all-over drying environment for shorter styles or hair in rollers. This design dries hair without blowing it around, drying it unevenly, or creating damaging hot spots. Assembly and operation is quick and simple--just attach the hose to the bonnet and tie the bonnet over your hair. The bonnet is sized to accommodate extra-large rollers, and a drawstring secures it around your head. Keep in mind that bonnet drying does take longer--anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on hair length and condition. On the upside, it leaves your hands free for the rest of your grooming routine. This dryer can also be used for deep-conditioning treatments or without the bonnet for quick spot-drying. Compact and slim, its storage case is very tidy, if not burly, and includes interior power cord storage and a recessed carrying handle. The unit comes with a 1-year warranty. --Emily Bedard
