Customer Review: Perfect for dark blondes wishing to go very light

I have naturally medium-to-dark blonde hair. I use this every four weeks to touch up my roots, focusing on lightening my color there, then rubbing it down the shaft of my hair to work it in & keep the rest of my hair light & bright. I leave it on 45 minutes; get in the shower & get a little water in my hair; rub the coloring in to create a bit of a foam on my head; rinse the coloring out; shampoo my hair; use the enclosed deep conditioner; leave that on for five minutes & voila- perfect Marilyn Monroe-blonde hair. This is not going to go TOO ash (i.e.- Swedish blonde), but it also will not go gold on you IF you dye your hair frequently enough. If you're looking to go a tad darker but even more ash, beige blonde is probably what you're looking for. And more ash on this light a hair color & you'd look like you have white (i.e., older lady) hair, since that is extremely hard to achieve at home. I must use an ash-based light colorant, as should most women, to overcome my natural tendency towards golden hair. Nothing says "bottle job" like brassy hair & dark roots. This is true almost across the board for women with my European (German, Scots-Irish & English) heritage & coloring, that we must go with ash colorant to overcome the red that tries to come through our blonde hair when we dye it.
I have very thick hair & only need one box of color as long as my hair is chin-length or shorter (with layers). Any longer than that & two boxes are required. Be aware that if you are starting on virgin hair, or hair with heavy roots (more than 1 inch long), you will not be likely to get to the color on the box cover the first time. It will take two to three applications before that happens. In the meantime, the hair will not be as light or as ash as the girl on the front of the box. You can color your hair as often as every two weeks with this IF you have strong hair. If your hair is any darker than a dark blonde, this product may not work well for you. I always suggest that a natural or dyed brunette or redhead going blonde make an appt. to see a good hairstylist (one who is a reputable color-changing specialist), at a qualified salon.
I am extremely pleased with this product, having used it for over fifteen years with no issues. It doesn't weaken or damage my hair at all. The conditioner in it lasts me four weeks with once-a-week usage. It's the best deep conditioner I've ever used- and I've tried Fekkai, Redken, Paul Mitchell, all the salon brands. I get no split ends, and get my hair cut every twelve weeks. My hairdresser always says that I have the best hair he's ever seen. I've had a $300 color job that took over four hours, which was done at a salon, and that got my hair no lighter, brighter or more ash than this product does. Needless to say, I immediately went back to coloring my own hair. If you like having one great hair color (as opposed to highlighted hair), you can't beat this. I personally love being an extra-light blonde and get tons of compliments on my hair. It is a classic look that never goes out of style, and I get the glamourous look at dirt-cheap cost to me.
