Customer Reviews of Mavala Stop - Helps Cure Nail Biting and Thumb Sucking, 0.3-Fluid Ounce

Customer Review: Worked for us!
Summary: 5 Stars

So far Mavala is working to help my just turned three yr old stop sucking her middle two fingers!

She has been a two-finger sucker since birth and we got her to only do it at nap and bedtime about a year ago. We have been starting to see the affects of all of the sucking in her teeth (the top teeth or sticking farther out) and the huge callous on her middle finger. Our dentist recommended giving her a day (third birthday for example)that her fingers would "taste bad" and wouldn't suck anymore. Of course, that is easier said than done. After reading all of the reviews for this product we decided to try it for our daughter. The first night we did it she gagged until she almost threw up and then cried for hours that she was sick, but no sucking! We reapplied the product every day for the first week and it was a tough week on all of us. She didn't suck her fingers, but she didn't sleep either. She is gradually getting adjusted so sleep is returning, but she still isn't sucking. We haven't applied the product for a week now and just a few days ago she tried sucking and told me it wasn't as bad. I reapplied it and she is doing fine and not sucking.

As a mother I feel for all of us trying to use this product to break a bad habit. I don't like having to resort to this, but I felt that the consequences of the sucking was worse that a few days of discomfort and bad taste. My husband and I both tried it before we put it on her fingers and have to agree the taste is attrocious! The bottle has more than enough in it to last for what we need and the product does work for us. Mavala is working for us!

Good luck!

Customer Review: Tips for using Mavala Stop on your Toddler
Summary: 5 Stars

My two-year old sucked her thumb consistently while sleeping and it was causing her teeth to move. In fact, her bite was affected dramatically. I tried some of the other "thumb sucking" products on the market that you can purchase at the drugstore and they all failed. She didn't seem to be affected in the least. I also tried the old methods of lemon juice, etc....yeah, right! When I first tried Mavala Stop on her (I painted the entire thumb nail), I realized that when she would pick up her food with her fingers (as toddler's usually eat---picking up a green bean, whatever..) she would get the bad taste in her mouth and stop eating. To alleviate this problem, I began to paint only a small part of her nail, right over the cuticle and onto the finger itself. A tiny tiny bit! This worked because when she would use her fingers to eat, she would not put that much of her thumb in her mouth to taste the cuticle area. However, when thumb sucking, that part of the thumb does enter the mouth. The only thing is that with lots of hand-washing, you may need to apply it more often (maybe each night) because it washes off more easily. Also, if you have painted the entire nail and you wish to remove it, acetone will remove Mavala Stop--you just might have to work at it with several cotton balls and then wash hands VERY WELL to remove the acetone taste. My daughter stopped sucking her thumb immediately. I kept up the Mavala for about a month just to prevent her from picking up the habit again. A last note, her teeth moved back into correct position in about 6 weeks and her bite is perfect. I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: after 30 years of nail biting i see my nails growing for the first time
Summary: 5 Stars

So yes, after 30 years of nail biting, i finally stopped. I really got tired of nail biting and the way my nails look, i mean, i got to some points where my nail length (starting from the root) was around 2 or 3 millimeters only.. they just looked really bad. I looked online for some products, and i saw this product, it had really good reviews from hundreds of people. so i decided to give it a try, after all it was just [ ... ]. So i got it within few days and i tried it, and oh boy! whenever i TRIED to bite my nail, the taste is soooo bad, that it will last in my tongue for hours. The only way to take it off is to eat something or chew a gum. After a week or so i started to have that YUCK taste feeling from my nails that i start to become aware whenever i try to bite it. That has been around 3 weeks already, today my nails are fully gown (about 5-6 millimeters) .. and just today i had my first nail trim to take off the sharp edges. Anyway, what i wanna say is that this product work, and u should give it a try, it only [ ... ]. Another thing, about people who are saying that their kids got used to the taste, thats actually true.. after few weeks i noticed that i don't get the same first YUCK feeling that i got the first few days.. maybe it is the human body getting used to it or something, but still there is a yuck feeling that it will keep u off but not as strong as the first day... However, by the time its taste effect goes down u should be all in control with ur nail biting habit.. i probably have used 3% of the bottle., because i only needed that first week to break my habit, after that u should be in control.

Customer Review: Best paint-on stuff you can get, but sucess depends on the child
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the best stuff that you can get to paint on your child's fingernails to deter thumb-sucking or nail biting. It's much better than Thum Liquid Stops thumb sucking and nail biting - 0.2 Oz / Pack, 3 Packs, which wore off quickly and had to be constantly reapplied. By contrast, Mavala maintains a nasty taste through the course of the day. Reapplying first thing in the morning, and possibly right before bed, should be plenty.

However, success depends on the child. We used this product simultaneously on 3 children: an 8.5 year old that puts his thumb in his mouth (not actually sucking) when he reads, a 6.5 year old who bit her nails until the white was all gone with occasional bleeding, and a 2.5 year old who sucks both thumbs when sleepy/bored. We only had success with one child, the 6.5 year old nail biter. A few days and the habit was broken, and her nails are nice and long. The other two children didn't like the nasty taste and had a sharp decrease temporarily in how often their thumbs were in their mouths, but then they habituated and were right back where they started. When I pointed out her thumb-sucking, my 2.5 year old would say it had worn off, but I'd taste her thumb and it was still nasty.

So, if you want to try a paint-on solution, this is what I'd recommend. But, it may very well not work for your child. It only worked for one of our three. I guess we'd have to try a thumb guard or some type of restraint with the other two if we wanted to break the habits.

Customer Review: IT REALLY WORKS
Summary: 5 Stars

After trying every product under the sun for our six year old daughter MAVALA worked. Our daughter sucked her thumb 24/7. Her mouth had started to change form about a year ago and yes I don't care what the doctor's say her teeth were starting to stick out. The thumb sucking also started to affect her speech. When I ordered the Mavala, I told our daughter I was trying to help her to stop sucking her thumb that she wasn't in trouble and as parents we didn't want her harming herself anymore. By the time Mavala arrived at our door step she was ready. That was until we came at her with it. She cried and was really scared. I put the Mavala on both thumbs and within one hour she had put her thumb in her mouth several times. She kept asking for water through the night. The taste was awful, but within 24 hours we started to notice a difference. It's been three weeks and our daughter is still going strong. It's truly wonderful seeing she change in front of us. She's more positive about herself and is starting to really stand strong. Once in awhile she will say I need more stuff on my thumbs. She wants to help herself. Please don't get me wrong this wasn't easy the first 24 hours and she did cry a couple of times, but as parents we need to do what's best for our children. Stand your ground. Also I had read about 20 reviews on Mavala before buying it and about 99% said their children got sick from putting their finger's in their mouths. This did not happen to us. I applied on both thumbs and didn't need to reapply for almost 24 to 48 hours. Good luck
