We purchased this product as a last resort for our three year old daughter. She sucked her thumb so hard that one of her front teeth was moving noticeably forward. After having tried behavior modification/positive reinforcement techniques we decided to use Mavala Stop.
We asked our daughter if she would like to have some help to stop sucking her thumb, and she said yes, so we introduced her to this product and allowed her to hold the box and instruction pamphlet while I first painted some on my own thumbnail and then hers. We used it after her evening routine, which I would NOT recommend. She cried (and drooled) for three hours and fidgeted all night long, so she did not get a good night's sleep.
It did, however, work wonders for her! We started treatment the night before last, and yesterday while driving home from a play date, I looked at her in the mirror of my car and she was fast asleep WITHOUT her thumb in her mouth!
She is very proud of herself since her thumb is no longer constantly wet, and she feels that her "boo boo thumb" is getting better (there is a large ugly callus on her thumb and her thumbnail is layered and peeling).
We are going to continue to use it for two weeks, as recommended by our daughter's dentist. So far, the results are unbelievable!

I used this product for myself. I have a very bad habit if biting my nails AND the skin around my nails to the point of bleeding...very embarrassing and nasty looking. This stuff worked great, however I've quit using it since it has ruined certain foods for me.
Every time I'd go to chew on a finger, the gross bitter taste of this would stop me, however, the day after applying this (showers and hand washing will NOT take this stuff off), I made ribs for dinner...my favorite. I ate my first rib, went to lick my yummy Raspberry Chipotle BBQ sauce off my fingers, and about gagged. It completely ruined my dinner after that.
I can't really fault the product for this since technically, it IS doing what it says it's supposed to...keeping your fingers out of your mouth. I just can't continue using it though since I have a toddler whose food I usually have to tear up, and we tend to eat a lot of finger foods here (Daddy's currently deployed, so Mommy eats what the little one eats!), and it's just disgusting to have that taste on your food.
Overall, I kinda recommend this. It does work, so there's that, but if you handle a lot of food with your fingers, then I say pass...as soon as you get that taste in your mouth, it takes forever to get rid of it.

I was a serious nail biter. I'm 25 and can't remember a time when I didn't bite my nails. Like some of the other reviewers, I would bite my nails down the quick. It never bothered me really until I realized it started affecting my work.
I decided to finally stop. I had tried cold turkey, fidgeting with toys, and even wearing gloves but nothing worked. I then tried the MAVALA STOP nail polish. After reading a lot of reviews, I was already frightened to put my fingers near my mouth. For the first two days, I was overly cautious and never tasted the awful stuff. Then one day I forgot.
The taste is so foreign and bad, you can't help but bring it to your conscious level of thought and notify yourself that you were about to bite your nails. That's all I really needed and I have stopped biting my nails after 14 days and only 3 applications.
Other pluses:
- No smell
- Does not wash off without scrubbing
- Horrid taste akin to earwax
- Apply once every 2-3 days
In fact, the only downside to the product is that the day following an application, finger food is contaminated with this awful taste. Use utensils!
Oh, not for children under 3 or really anyone where a bad taste is not a deterrent.

This is an awesome product. Because it tastes so horrible and the taste lingers for a very long time.. it reminds me not to bite my nails. The thing I like, yet one that drives me so insane is.. that I always tend to bite my nails or smoke when I get hungry.. meaning right before eating. I got this awesome 5 star pizza, and right before eating.. i bit my nail forgetting I have it on. Big mistake. I am eating the pizza now, with the horrible taste in my mouth. Ruined my dinner.

It's been about a month now since I've been using it.. and I've never had my finger nails this long. It is kinda gross but, I'm 29, and I've stopped using nail clippers when I was like 14 and I just recently started using them. I see reviews talking about how it does not work on kids, and I can see why. It tastes horrible and shocking at first, but I think if kids are stubborn they will keep doing it. The things is.. I actually wanted to stop (since I'm nearing 30 and I was still biting my nails). This worked as a shock reminder every time i bit my nail because I didn't "try" to bite my nails, only to stop the biting without thinking. So perhaps it wouldn't have worked for me either, if I was a child and I was "wanting to bite" and forced myself to get used to it.

My son has been sucking his thumb since birth he is 2 months shy of his 3rd birthday so this habit was really troubling me. At first we tried to keep him busy/distracted during the day and it seemed to help however in the last 3 months it seemed to be worse I found him constantly sucking his thumb even while playing. First thing we tried was "thumb" bought at drugstore...it worked one day and by the second he was sucking again even with it on his thumb...then I read about this product decided to try it and it worked only took 2-3 days of applying it..naturally we had problems with his sleeping because he was so accustomed to suck his thumb to fall asleep and even during his sleep however that only lasted a week or so and with coaxing, reassuring, and sleeping in the bed next to his a few nights..he no longer sucks his thumb!!!!! It is such a relief, I was so worried about dental issues. It is also so nice he can just fall asleep on his own without his thumb in his mouth!!! I did try this product out first before I used it on him and it just leaves a very bitter taste in the your mouth. He never threw up he would drool and try to spit the product out. I also did not have to apply very often but I did apply to all fingers! A big thank you to the makers of this product!!!!!!
