Customer Reviews of Nag Champa Incense Sticks 100 gmsCustomer Review: The quintessential incense, holds great sentimental value Summary: 5 Stars
It's difficult to review a brand of incense, and yet I'm eager to do so. I was first introduced to Nag Champa as a teenager in the mid-1990s at Journey's Bookstore, a now-closed New Age and recovery center in Beaverton, Oregon. It created such a beautiful, delicate, and peaceful atmosphere, especially when juxtaposed with the soothing music of Aeoliah playing in the background. Since then, not a month has gone by that I have not burnt at least a stick of this exotic scent. In fact, lately I have been burning several sticks a day - see, after I moved from the Portland area, my primary New Age supplier became Rosebud & Fish Bookstore in Salem. Sadly, the same fate befell Rosebud & Fish ... and at their going-out-of-business sale I bought over eighty-dollars worth of Nag Champa. I now have almost enough to open my own store! Anyway, like I said, it's hard to write a review of incense. Perhaps I should add that the lady who managed the now-closed (see a trend?) Alexandria Bookstore at Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California, said that Nag Champa is a "classic" incense, and it became famous in the US during the 1960s, giving it something of a Hippie association. And I remember once talking to an Indian man who said proudly that this is a very "Indian" scent (he also told me that "Nag Champa" is Hindi for "Green Jasmine"), which makes sense since it is produced in India under the auspices of the Satya Sai Baba organization. Unfortunately, recent scandals regarding Satya Sai Baba have somewhat tarnished his reputation, but they cannot detract from the fact that this is a beautiful fragrance with which I have many positive associations and memories. Customer Review: No substitute for this has matched yet! One of my favorites Summary: 5 Stars
I started using Nag Champa less than two years ago because I didn't like the harsh smell of my neighbor's cooking in addition to the smell I can't seem to get out of my apartment. No matter how much that I cleaned and disinfected nothing helped the underlying smell. These incense took care of EVERY scent that was bothering me. My friend came over and even asked for some of the incense because of the pleasant aroma. These aren't charcoal so the smoke is more mellow and not as harsh. I would recommend burning these in a well ventilated or big enough room. One should do the job for a 10x13 bedroom.
It is important to know something about Nag Champa. The true Nag Champa has a special seal on it as well as the incense are almost always fresh. The way that you can tell how fresh is by the feel and look of the incense. They are usually a light brown/grayish type color and should be either slightly damp or the dust looks like it is ready to fall off of the stick but doesn't. Its not uncommon for a box to be a little drier but the scent and burning should still be fine. Knock-offs usually don't have the true seal, the incense are smoky when burnt, and burns quickly. Even though the sticks appear the same, they definitely aren't. (Each Nag Champa incense stick should weigh one gram so a forty gram box is forty sticks)
I would rather use a charcoal type incense before buying the knockoff because at least I know I have a fifty/fifty chance to enjoy them. The knockoffs usually end up either in the trash or used to light a blown pilot on the stove in my household.
S/N definitely enhances longevity of meditation sessions ;)
Customer Review: Nag Champa & World Incense Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered Nag Champa when I was visiting a local incense shop. The manager recommended it to me as her favorite incense. She also told me she liked to burn it all the time.
I took her word and bought 15 grams to try it out. I rarely ever used incense more than one week and thought the same with this kind. I was very wrong. It was very different than the run-of-the-mill incense you see unopened sitting in bundles!
As you see in other reviews it is a very mild soothing aroma in the air. It sounds funny to say this but it almost slows the air down. As long as you have a quiet environment it brings tranquility.I would recommend this to anyone, not just people who are into incense.
Of course I bought more, but this time I bought it in bigger bulk from World Incense on Amazon. I received the 100g package quickly along with samples of the other Nag Champa flavors. Everything was sealed to keep in the freshness. I figure I will always get it this way and look forward to doing business with Tom again.
Customer Review: SMELLED TERRIBLE! Summary: 1 Stars
I had to stop what I was doing and write this review, I just received this incense in the mail and I immediately lit up ready to enjoy the aroma, and I was hit with the most horrible smell ever. I don't know if this was just a bad batch, but it smells terrible. I have been using this specific incencse for years, and I know exactly how it smells, and this was just the most awful aroma ever. I have yet to contact the seller, but I plan to do so. I am very disappointed with this being my first time ordering this incense for it to be so disappointing. I want either a fresh shipment, or my money returned. I am warning everyone, please be careful when ordering, it may not be what you expect.
Customer Review: 2010 Nag Champa Summary: 3 Stars
I have purchased two 100 gram boxes of Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa over the past couple of months and both have very different aroma's. The first box smells really great, with a more aromatic smell than the second. The second box has 2010 on the seal and inside flap of the box, where the first box I purchased does not.
I'm not sure if they have changed the formula, but the second is nowhere near as good as the first. It doesn't smell as sweet and is more woody smelling. It also looks different; it's tan instead of gray.
I think I'm going to stick with the Red Nag from now on because it seems the Satya Sai Baba changes from one box to the next.
