Does it clean? Yes, it does. However, the type of skin you have will affect how well this product cleans your skin. For example, some people with sensitive skin may find the pads too harsh. Conversely, some users may discover the enclosed pads provide insufficient cleaning or an insufficient feeling of cleanliness. It works well for at least one person's skin type in our family.
Is it pretty? Yes, it is. In addition to being attractive and feminine in appearance, it is easy to hold. The Wave Sonic power cleanser is hard to beat for looks and ergonomics.
Are there any fun features? In addition to the power button, the Wave Sonic has a second button that provides two different speeds. One speed is supposed to be for everyday cleaning. The high speed is supposed to be for a deeper clean. I suspect "deeper" in this context means removal of more skin.
There are two types of pads currently available for this device, deep clean and gentle. I think the deep clean pads come with the Wave Sonic. Replacement pads are relatively inexpensive, less than 50 cents per pad at this time. The pads that come with the Wave Sonic foam up a lot, and can be a challenge in a small sink, or even in a sink.
One of the nice features of this product is that it is suitable for use in the shower, a much better place for the foaming action of the pads than a sink. When you install the batteries, which, amazingly enough, are included, you will see that there is an o-ring sealing the battery compartment. I am sure the rest of the product contains similar seals to prevent water from entering the motor.
Thus far, it seems like this product is all roses, except for the copious foaming; not quite. The biggest problem is that it takes a while to do a thorough job and some people, like the average mother or any woman with a career, may not have the time it takes to clean their face completely. Face it, when you have to get the kids out to the bus, change a diaper or meet a carpool, taking an extra 5, 10 minutes or more in addition to all the other things that need to be done in the morning, like getting dressed, just may not be in the cards.
This product could have had some nifty other features, though those features would cost more. For example, it might have been nice to have the direction of rotation change each time you turn the power on. My microwave does that and it seems like a useful feature. Some sort of tone at periodic intervals to indicate time to move somewhere else on my face would have been useful too. I am also looking forward to when these come in other colors, like blue, or purple even.
So, thumbs up or thumbs down? If you have the time to use the Wave Sonic, your skin responds well to the pads, and you can use it in a large sink or in the shower, then for the money this is a wonderful device. All others go for the more expensive devices, use a luffa or the trusty standby, the washcloth. Who knew?
