Customer Reviews of Revlon RV544 1875 Watt Tourmaline Ionic Lightweight Dryer, Silver/Black

Customer Review: Works well for the price
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had this dryer for about two years, and it held up pretty well during that time. Recently, it started making a burning smell, and regular cleaning of the lint area hasn't helped, so I figured it was time to replace the unit.

I originally bought this Revlon unit here on Amazon since it was rated as a Consumer Digest Best Buy, and it's a decent dryer for the price. If you have shorter hair that is not too thick, this dryer should be fine.

That being said, instead of buying a new one of these to replace my old one, I decided to upgrade to a Sedu brand dryer -- and the difference between the two is amazing. With this Revlon dryer, it took me at least a good 15 minutes to fully dry my short, thick hair. The Sedu dryer dries my hair in less than five minutes.

If you want a good, mid-priced dryer, than this Revlon works well and will last a long time. However, if you want a faster drying time, I wouldn't recommend this one. I didn't know how slow this thing was until I splurged on a more expensive unit.

Overall, I would give this Revlon unit 3 1/2 stars.

Customer Review: Dries medium-length hair nicely without overdrying
Summary: 5 Stars

OWNED: 4 months.

NOISE: High setting is noisy, but that is expected. Low setting is still somewhat noisy, but quiet enough that I can use it at night without feeling like I disrupt people in other rooms. If you worry too much about noise, you are going to buy a weak hair dryer that never dries you hair. Don't worry about noise.

HEAT: High and low settings both dry my hair well. Usually I start with high and then switch to low when I only have a few spots left to dry. Does not overheat. With my old hair dryer, I would have to press the cool button after a couple moments in the high setting because it heated up too much. I have not had that problem with this hair dryer.

SMELL: Good. No smell. Hair dryers sometimes smell burnt, but this one does not.

SHINE/SOFTNESS: I think my hair is shiny and soft, but I do not know how much to attribute to the hair drier and how much to attribute to conditioners and other things. Anyway, this hair dryer does not make my hair frizzy. No frizziness! It leaves it smooth.

RECOMMEND? Yes!

Customer Review: You get what you pay for

I was not happy with this dryer and am returning it. It is very loud, the diffuser attachment is very small and the hot setting was not hot enough for me. I have very thick, very curly hair (just below shoulder length) and diffuse my hair every day. The diffuser that came as an attachment is much smaller and is flat and has the fingers sticking out, which ended up poking my head. The Helen of Troy diffuser I've used for years has a bigger circumference and is concave so the fingers don't touch your head. Also, most ionic dryers leave your hair shiny, but this dryer left my hair frizzy and dull. I also wish it had a longer cord. On the hottest heat setting, it just felt like the ends of my hair were getting dry, not my roots. For curly hair, if you don't get the roots dry, you end up with flat hair that is curly on the bottom a.k.a. "triangle head."

On the up side, it is very light. Someone with thin or straight hair may really like it. But if you have thick, curly hair...this dryer is mostly just noise.

Customer Review: The Wife Says "Best Ever" For Her....
Summary: 5 Stars

This hair dryer is the third in a series of attempts to find the right hair dryer for my wife, who has long thick hair. The first one was a Vidal Sassoon that had ionic technology, but didn't get near hot enough. She was drying her hair for > 20 minutes.

The second attempt was the Revlon RV469 ceramic, which was much quieter and got hotter, but didn't have much air flow. Also, it is quite heavy. It was better than the first dryer, but not hair drying nirvana.

This dryer (Revlon RV544) has easily cut my wife's drying time in half. She has very thick & long hair, and the high heat setting makes quick work of it. It gets hot enough that I actually tone it down to warm for myself (I have short, thick hair) whenever I have to use the dryer. I think the air flow settings are perfect. The dryer is also nice and light, and fits in a bathroom drawer easily, unlike some of the bulkier models out there.

My wife thinks this is the best dryer she has ever had. We highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Five stars for the price!
Summary: 5 Stars

Works great, dries my hair MUCH faster than my previous dryer... or any dryer I have ever used outside of a salon. I am completely satisfied with it, ESPECIALLY for the GREAT price (I got mine for $16.99). Yes, as some reviews mention... it does get very hot on High, (but I have a lot of hair so maybe thats why it's not a big deal to me). Yes, the power control buttons are placed stupidly/as rocker buttons, but that is also not a deal-breaker for me either. -So once in a while I shut it off or accidentally change it's setting, big deal! I then turn it back on or flip it back to high! It's not particularly frustrating.
I researched and researched hairdryer's before I made the decision to buy this one several months ago after my old dryer broke. This was the one I found, and back then it was $30+. I ended up discovering how to fix my old dryer, and so it wasn't' until I lost my old dryer moving that I actually went ahead and bought this one around Christmas. It was a great choice!
