Customer Reviews of Rogaine for Men Hair Regrowth Treatment, Easy-to-Use Foam, 2.11 Ounce, (3 month supply)

Customer Review: Five Stars (not really)
Summary: 5 Stars

I reviewed this product a week prior to this post. The review lasted on Amazon just a few days before Amazon removed it. I gave it two stars. There was nothing offensive in my review so it is befuddling why Amazon removed. So I give five stars in this repost... if this post lasts then a skew may exist for keeping high-star reviews vs low-star reviews. Anyway, I have some important items to share here. Just two stars in the prior review because of a couple of major gripes: (1) too strong of fragrance and (2) just mild regrowth results. If not for the scent, I award the Rogaine foam 3.5 stars.

Years ago I used the original non-foam Rogaine product. That was before Rogaine Foam entered the market. That was 17 years ago. And I had good results with the non-foam version until I developed an allergy to the polypropylene-glycol (PPG). So I had to stop use about 12 years ago. Back then there was no foam version.

Turns out there are many like me who develop skin allergy to PPG. Fast forward 10 years... the foam version hits market which uses glycerin in place of polypropylene-glycol. The glycerin is much better tolerated. So restarting use the Rogaine two years ago, this time foam version, I had no allergic reaction. Yet the new product now has an added very strong fragrance. Still there was some regrowth using the product. So do try the product and see for yourself. It may work for you. Yet keep your expectations in order. And beware that when you first apply there will be an overwhelming flowery scent that lasts for about 45 minutes until it dries, which can be embarrassing if not accounted for. In case makers of Rogaine are reading, please make a fragrance-free foam version (and soon). My wife has a sensitive nose and complains mightily so I usually have to leave the room.

Customer Review: Can work on receding hairline and easy to use too!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had a steadily receding hairline since age 22. I'm 31 now. I started to use Propecia three years ago, which slowed the progression and allowed me to grow some back, but ultimately proved to be just delaying the inevitable. I started using Rogaine Foam two months ago, after I gave up trying to use liquid Rogaine years ago because I found it too cumbersome to work with and it dripped into my face. All I can say is wow. In two months, I've had hair coming back on my head in places that I haven't seen since I was a teenager. It's steadily getting thicker and darker too (though I have some thinner, paler, vellus hair on the sides still). I have enough now that I actually have to be concerned about styling it every morning for the first time in years. This is all after only two months, which supposedly isn't even very long into Rogaine's full effectiveness. And, as I get more hair and grow it longer, I have more options to style and cut it.

In short, Rogaine does work on receding hairlines and frontal hair loss, no matter what they say. For the sake of disclosure, I still use Propecia as well, plus Nizoral, but I've seen results from Rogaine very quickly and dramatically in my case.

The stuff does have a bit of a sweetish smell to it that I find a little distracting, sort of like hairspray but stronger. It also leaves my hair where I use it a bit stiffer and clumpier. But it is much easier to work with than the old liquid Rogaine, and supposedly it's more effective as well. You have to use it twice a day (I do morning and night), and you're not supposed to wash it out until it's been able to sit for at least four hours. I recommend letting it dry, then styling or fluffing afterwards with a comb. Takes a little extra bit of time in the morning, but the results are well worth it!

Customer Review: Make Sure You Get the Unscented Version
Summary: 3 Stars

My review is focused on foam vs. liquid versions, not on whether minoxidil is effective or not for hair loss. It is effective. I bought the scented foam version a while back, and the fumes were overwhelming, and also unhealthy I suspect. Since I published my review it was pointed out that there is now an unscented version of this product. Therefore I am increasing my rating to 3 stars.

The effectiveness of minoxidil for hair loss has been proven scientifically. In most cases it will at least slow hair loss considerably, and in some cases it may completely stop or partially reverse hair loss. The foam version doesn't run down your scalp when you apply it and therefore is better in some respects. It is however much more expensive than the generic non-foam version of minoxidil. I also wonder if the new version is completely unscented. "Unscented" deodorant, for example, usually has a smell. Another question would be whether or not the additional chemicals found in the foam version have any negative effect when applied to skin.

I plan to stick with the generic, liquid, version of minoxidil. I use the spray applicator, which used to be provided with liquid Rogaine. I find this much easier and faster than using the eye dropper. I think one can still get the spray pump attachment by calling the company. Otherwise, the spray pump that comes with Costco eyeglass lens cleaner will also fit the bottle. One can determine the amount provided in each pump by spraying into a plastic bag, and then measuring the volume with the eye dropper. If the liquid runs down your forehead, wipe it off right away and wash off with water to prevent unwanted hair growth in this area.

Customer Review: Very effective, but must be faithful and patient
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works great, and if you combine it daily with a few other supplements that block DHT formation (Saw Palmetto, Nu-Hair, flaxseed oil, Niozin shampoo) it can really make a difference. Don't give up if you don't see results right away or if you notice more stray hairs coming out- this actually means that it's working. Stay faithful putting it on (morning and evening) and you will probably begin to see noticeable results around the 3-4 month mark. I highly recommend this over pills such as Propecia which have considerably negative side effects for some. It dries very quickly and nicely and the scent is not very bothersome at all. You may want to use slightly more than the recommended dosage- the instructions state that it only works on the vertex (mid-back of the scalp) but this is not true. It has REALLY grown hair for me around the temples, but it took longer to come in. The first place I noticed was that the back of my hair, which had thinned a bit, was now covered (after about 1-2 months). I'm at the 5 month mark now and am still seeing great results. Give it time, be patient, and wait for it to work. I think people might give up too easily because they think it's not working, but it does take time. It also works great if you use any kind of concealers on the scalp (like toppik or courve, spencer forrest brands)- it works with those as well, just allow it to dry before putting anything else on your hair. Drying time is about 5-10 minutes max. Anyway, highly recommended for hair loss- be faithful in using it, be patient, and the results will come. Good luck to everyone on looking your best!

Customer Review: Wow
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the reviews. I started using this October 3, 2010. I decided to give it the 3 month run. I was hoping I did not fall into the 15% of not working.

This product is great. I actually did not look for the entire 3 months. However, my wife did. She said "It is working" but I waited. Jan 3rd, 2011, I looked..... It works. Round hairless area, hair. Not full, but not skin. Now (Feb 23, 2011) 90% hair. I am impressed.

Do it twice a day and you should see results. Take a before and after picture for comparison. I didn't, which was my mistake. But I did look in October and then in January. Just wow (I am 45 yrs old).

I am now using it in areas not recommended (non-crown areas, read the instructions). It works there also, if my using a mirror looking at a side view (forehead/temple) does not deceive (it doesn't).

Use after the morning shower, prior to blow/air drying. Use in the evening after getting home for the aroma to subside. Not bad, but noticeable after applying. It does subside.

It is similar to moose/styling gel (plus the aroma), so be sure to plan your application. It is not that bad, but YOU will be aware of it.

Also, use just a small (1/2 a cap) application, as directed. It goes a long way. Use it like moose and it is wasted.

That said, I bought a second round.

Lonnie
