Unlike Stila's stains (which really do not work well on cheeks or lips), this stuff is AMAZING. I liked it so much in Poppy (a bright warm red shade) that I bought it in Petunia (warm pink), rose (deep rose/plummy) and gladioli (goldeny orange). All of them are great. They also have colors more suited for lighter and cooler skin tones that I didn't buy.
Poppy is a face-brightening color. It goes on smoothly on both lips and cheeks. It gives a dewy effect to cheeks and has excellent durability. Gladioli is a color that looks odd in the case, but gives the whole face a glowing warmth, like someone sat you down by a whole bunch of candles. :) Petunia is a medium strength warm pink that goes beautifully with lipsticks like MAC's new Cyndi. LIke a salmon type pink. Rose is a very elegant and flattering rose shade--a toned down rose that flirts with plumminess. I find it really appealing and suitable for work or going out.
I am VERY impressed with the convertible colors, and I hope these are permanent and more colors come into play.
As far as application, you can easily use your fingers, but for best results, I find that a lip brush for lips and a nice duo-fibre blush brush work wonders (I've taken photos with this and I look so refreshed and lively). I use MACs 188 brush for the cheeks and MAC's lip brush for lips. But when rushed, I've used fingers with no problem.
I have supersensitive skin and many products are problematic for me. So far, this has not caused breakouts or a rash. Hoorah!
For reference: I have medium-dark skin (am a Latina), an NC42 to NC44 according to MAC foundation classification. All the colors I bought were flattering, though they gave different looks. However, the other pink was too cool for my tone (paler, cooler tones will love some of the others).
