Customer Review: It works! but not totally sold on this

Eyelids may constitute a small square footage of your epidermis, but they have oil glands, too; just try touching them at the end of the day and you might feel how greasy they can be. And if you are female who wears eyeshadow, you'll find that (a) your eyeshadow color fades, (b) your eyeshadow clumps unattractively in the creases, or both. That's where this eyeshadow primer by Urban Decay comes into play. You apply some of this pinkish stuff over your eyelid and even up to your eyebrows, let it dry (it dries clear) and then you're ready to apply makeup.
For the record, this works and prevents my lids from turning into a greasy pit by the end of a normal work day. Every now and then, I notice a bit of shadow aggregating in the crease, but the amount is much less than what I find it I do not use the primer. So yes, this works.
Now...a few caveats: I would not necessarily insist this to be a makeup toolbox "must have." The main reason is I feel, deep down in my most-frugal of hearts, that there has to be a lower cost alternative- if not a drugstore brand, then some other product that can double as a primer (though one should hesitate to put untested things on or near the delicate skin around the eyes).
The second caveat is a flaw in the package design. The primer tube is a bit larger than a full sized tube of mascara, and the "wand" is a stick with a sponge. Without being too graphic, you can plunge all you want in the tube but the wand could not reach the product clinging to the walls. In fact, if you cut the tube open, you would see just how much product is wasted. Now, the powers that be at Urban Decay have redesigned the wand so it is bent at an angle- yay!- so that might help things a bit. Still, though, for the price, you'd like to be able to get the most mileage from the product.
