Customer Reviews of WENŽ Lavender Cleansing Conditioner 16ozCustomer Review: Never using shampoo again Summary: 4 Stars
I decided to try this after seeing the infomercial. I came to Amazon to check out the reviews and bought the 3oz bottles at first. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, and I definitely didn't want to get enrolled in a monthly payment plan.
I have very fine hair. Before WEN, it had been getting gradually more and more frizzy, to the point where I was convinced that I just had bad hair. It was depressing, and I was desperate for something that would work.
When I first tried WEN, there was no immediate change. I decided to chalk it up to another product that failed to deliver. I also noticed that my scalp felt more oily and heavy.
Then I saw the infomercial again and realized I was not using it as a leave-in conditioner. So the next time I washed, I put about a nickel's worth of it on my hair after rinsing. That's when I noticed a difference. For the first time in my life, my hair was curly! I've always wanted naturally curly hair, but I could never achieve it. I can't use a curling gel or mouse and get any results. In fact, the more product I use, the straighter/fuzzier it becomes.
WEN changed that. It's not a miracle, but it does reveal the natural beauty of your hair. My hair is naturally wavy, bordering on curly. It has giant, spiraling waves that can be really hard to manage. They didn't reveal themselves until I stopped using regular shampoo.
Now, about the heaviness and oiliness on my scalp: It went away after the first week. It is actually pretty normal. Our skin gets used to all the detergents we use, so it needs to adjust. It compensates for the dryness by releasing more oil. So while I was cleansing with WEN, it took a few days for my scalp to realize the change.
The reason I gave WEN 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the cost. I wish this was something everyone could use, but it's prohibitively expensive. And even though it replaces all my hair products at this point, it's still more costly than dropping $4 for a month's worth of shampoo and conditioner. I live in a rural region where the cost of living is low. Housing prices are low. But at the same time, incomes are also low. And that makes WEN a pricey alternative to shampoo.
Since I'm cheap, I try to use as little as possible. The directions advise you to use something close to 40 pumps a wash, but you can get by with less if you make sure your hair is wet. I can manage with about 12 pumps total for my head by keeping my hair wet enough so the product moves more easily. Just make sure you don't get it so wet that the product rinses out. By using less, you get the same results (I've tried using more and it makes no difference), and a 16 oz bottle will last 3 times as long. Of course, I have very fine hair. Someone with thicker hair may need to use more.
Another benefit is that WEN is great for travelling, especially if you buy the 3 oz bottles.
To be realistic, I don't think this is a product for everyone. People with thick hair seem to not care for it as much, and I've had some friends try it and not like it. This isn't a one-size-fits-all world. It's natural that, while some of us love it, others may not.
I will never go back to shampoo again, however. That sounds like a cheesy commercial line, but I really mean it. Even with the added cost, it's worth it to me. I've been using WEN for about 8 months, and I still get excited every time I wash. I know my hair is going to look great afterwards.
