Customer Reviews of Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner - 16 ozCustomer Review: White Momma and African American Daughter Summary: 3 Stars
I was up late one night with my 3 year old daughter and caught the infomercial for Wen. It sounded too good to be true. I am white with shoulder length naturally curly hair that leans toward the fine side. It's more than wavy but not kinky curly--by the end of the day it looks like a bad perm. My daughter is African (from Ethiopia) with 8" super kinky natural afro hair. So I was excited to see if Wen would work. After reading several reviews I decided to get it on Amazon so I didn't have to worry about the issue of Wen sending me more each month and charging my account.
We have been using the Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner for about 3 weeks now.
Ok, so here are the results:
On my hair:
I am white with shoulder length curly hair. I like the smell (some other people didn't like it, I guess). It was not too strong, but does have an odd smell that is different than most hair care products. I LOVED the 1 step. It left my hair shiny and soft. The first time I used it I did not put any styling products on it, just let it dry naturally. My hair seemed a little limp when it dried and not very curly or springy. The next morning I used a large round brush to straighten it. It blew out really easy and was soft and silky. I did not even need to use a flat iron. That was nice, since straightening my hair usually means 3 steps: drying it, using a round brush to blow it out, and then a flat iron to smooth it.
Overall, I like it, but now when I am leaving my hair curly I will put another product in it called "beautiful curls" that I buy at beautifulcurls(.)net that gives my hair more defined curls and body. I will continue to use it and may even try other "flavors" to see which I like the best.
It was a bit of a letdown after watching the infomercial, though.
On my daughters hair:
She is Ethiopian 3 years old with very kinky, nappy beautiful natural hair that is about 8" when pulled straight. It is very thick (for a 3 year old) and very, very dry. I have struggled to find the right product for her hair. I have spent a LOT of money and a lot of time trying to find the right products for her (olive oil, kinky-curly, beautiful curls, mixed chicks, carols daughter--you name it, I have probably tried it) . I was so excited to try Wen on her hair. The results were not as good as I had expected, but not altogether bad. I love the one step process. It is easy and simple to use in the bathtub or shower. It did leave her soft and fluffy, but somewhat dry and a bit dull. I even used 5-6 pumps as a leave in conditioner. That seemed to make her hair more "dull" than usual. It did clean her hair well, though.
The next week I washed her hair with Wen and then used "Beautiful Curls (see website above) as the leave in conditioner. That did the trick. It defined her curls and made her hair nice and shiny. Each morning I spray her hair with a combo of water and Beautiful Curls and style it as usual.
The Bottom Line:
Wen is the not as good as the TV ads claim. It is not a miracle product. I like it well enough to buy it again. The cost is comparable to what I was using before. The one step process is nice. I like how it leaves my hair and my daughters hair soft.
I think a lot depends on the type hair you have and where you live. We live in Arizona where it is soooo dry. If we lived in a more humid climate we may have a different review of the product.
I say give it a try and see what happens.
